you need to be moving forward, when an opposing player gets close enough, you hold the right or left key (depending on which way you are attacking), press the down or up key and shift key or spacebar.
so if you were attacking ---> you would:
---> (hold) + press down or up key + shift key or spacebar
this always works for me, however, its a lot easier with a game pad.

HEADERS! HOW TO DO THEM?
Does anybody know how to make a pass with a header, being unmarked?
Why the "header" button only works when you jump with someone from the other team? On all the other times, your player will just chest the ball down to the ground...
... but the computer can do them! It doesn't make any sense! Passing the ball with a header is football 101!
Did EA forget it?
Anybody with the secret combination (PC - Keyboard) please help!

when ur playa gets ta ball, well b4 he gets the ball u press shift n backwards n he'll do a s6o spin, works for me all ta time. eg if hes facing left, when a pass is done to him u press shift n right button b4 he gets ta ball, he'll do 36o spin. oh yeh also press shift+lob button to chip ball ova defenders!!!!!!

Let me clear this up once and for all
i play on the gc btw.
neways to do a trick all u have to do is tap the c stick in the direction u want to go.
when u arent near a player, your player will knock the ball ahead of them and sprint after it.
when the is a player close by he will do a move to try and get passed, every player has at least 3 moves, but certain players have signature moves e.g kanu, ronaldo, zidane
you dont need to rotate the stick in a cirlce or nething, all u have to do isflick it to the left right or forward
if u just hold the stick forwards, your player will knock the ball forwards then run after it then knock it forwards again, it is good to do this when u pass the last defender and u are trying to get away from him

Hi, folks! There's really no mistery in making those fakes, sprints and special moves - it's all about pressing SHIFT+ARROWS! Of course, it depends if you're surrounded or not, depends on which player gots the ball... you cannot expect everybody to have the same skills that Ronaldo has, right?
But the headers... that's something really intriguing! I just can't figure out a way to develop a simple header pass, like the freaking computer does all the time when you lift the ball near their area! It doesn't make any sense to me. The "header button" won't work; the player will always chest the ball down. That piece of c... will only work if you're jumping for the ball with some guy from the other team.
Does anybody have already discovered how to do it?
PS: beware of the level of fatigue of your players. If you use the special moves too much, they'll tire faster than using the regular sprint...

Corner Kicks
Has anyone figured out how to stop the computer on a PS2 from scoring at will with headers on corner kicks.. Almost every time the computer has a corner kick on me they head teh ball into the ground for a goal. it is really agravating when they do 2 or 3 times a game.

this is how
if when they cross the ball it is in the box press the button to make the keeper run out and punch it. dont press it if the ball is goingto the edge of the box because the player will head it in. also use the lob button instead of the head button because the lob button makes your keeper come out, and u wont head it

well when you got the ball on the wing and you see you have room to go make a cross, press L1 and that will make your player run into space and with a strong enough cross (sqaure button), you should connect and usually just hit the shoot button but most of the time he will head it towards what part of the net you aim at.....if the timing is right your be able to beat the goalie....it gets very very easy once you master it

please i need help, ive goy a joystick makopad interact for pc to play fifa, it has 8 buttons, 2 of them r repeated, mean they r the same as other 2. I dont know how to use the "space" and shift buttons in the joystick

i would happily follow this advice if i could only switch to the right player in time. or maybe the midfielders could be programmed to come back and shut down passing lanes or cover open players. nah. that might take some extra programming time and then they'd have to test it. still, it's a thought.

How to Deliver a good cross?
While crossing, I seemed to have this problem of getting the wrong player to run when I pressed the 'player run' button. i.e. the player deeper in the box does not run to collect a deep cross while the player nearer to the crosser did the running...
If anyone could make up what I m trying to say, please advise coz I m really in a lost on delivering gd crosses... thanks a million!

are you kidding me?! woah!
do this: use Real Madrid, and play a weak team vs. the computer on the easiest difficulty, and just try the entire game to do tricks. remember, in order to do special moves, you have to hold R1, or your player won't do a trick.
also, to do a header...just give the ball to one of your midfielders, and head to the top or bottom of the 18 yard box, before you get there, make one of your strikers run ahead by pressing L1 while the left analog stick is pointed toward them. then do a cross to that player by pressing the square button. when the ball is up in the air, hold the circle button to determine the power of the shot. if you try this and it doesn't work...then i don't know how to help you. i've scored 6 goals in 1 game with Saviola by doing exactly what i just explained, not to mention the other 4 goals from headers by Kluivert and Mendieta.

i have found that if you make the player that you DON'T want to run, run almost straight up or down, then you will eventually run past that player, and then it will allow you to make the player in the box run.
another option is giving the ball to the player that you DON'T want to run, and having him cross to the player in the box that you DO want to run.
it's something that EA needs to address, hopefully they will change it for FIFA 2k4.

chip shot ?
when i cross the ball into the box somewhat sofly if i connect with my player somewhat far from the goal the player will chip or shoot the ball very high into the air and out of play....this happens even if i dont hit anything and i understand that happens in the game but i was wondering if anyone has scored a goal like that either really close to goal where u just shelf it to the top of the net or maybe are able to control the strength of the lob....just curious because i can score every single way i think u can in the game and im basically want to know if theres any way i can control that part of the game......just wondering.....thanks....if anyone has any questions for me let me know the game is very easy for me now

yo totti...i am in the same position that you are in. i can play with a team that is really poor, and beat Real Madrid on World Class (the hardest difficulty).
about the chipshot goal...i have not scored that way, but i know exactly what you're talking about. i will try it, and let you know if i am successful.
