a thought on the subject of converting. i don't know why nobody paid more attention to the fact that new generation head models (like fifa 19) are bigger than fifa 14 heads. 4-5% bigger to be precise. which i'm now sure should be addressed when converting by SCALING! if we don't scale it's not gonna be evident in each players' case but it will be pretty noticeable in many. most commonly the difference manifests itself when a player's neck won't fit in the collar. or the head just looks too big. in case of neck issues some modders use the sculpt mode. the more i thought about it the more i realized - sculpting is the worst possible solution to the problem. when you sculpt the neck you modify the natural geometry of the model but what's most important you change something that doesn't need changing - the problem is not the shape of the neck, it's the overall size of the head model. so sculpting basically ignores the real issue and tries to fix what doesn't need fixing. so please from now on scale when you convert - it's incredibly easy but will produce better results. unfortunately i realized all this after i've converted all the icons.. and some other players for my game. so i'm gonna be gradually remaking them (at least the most important first team players).
and here's an example of what i was talking about, chiellini - default fifa 14 head inside the new fifa 19 head:
Well I feel like I need to give a word on this. You all know that I am the biggest pain in the ass when it comes to converting and that I was annoying you guys with "instruction" and neck stuff just in order to get good conversions. And in my opinion this proposal is pretty much pointless to be honest. Of course, if you do it cool, some people will use those faces. But I for example won't use it in my conversions, and here is the reason - are you gonna "fix" ALL the faces from FIFA 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 that have been converted? I don't think so. We all know that faces we use ever since FIFA 15 are a bit bigger, but if you ask me I am already used to it, and it doesn't look bad at all (I was even thinking of making custom models bigger, because now I have the feeling they are too small). If you do this you should do it with all the heads ever converted - in that case I clap for your quest. But I know you won't and that you are gonna convert just some faces. Now imagine a facemaker who wants to combine some old head model that you haven't fixed with hair that you fixed?! He will have to do it manually, and you would say "oh but it is easy process", but it complicates the situation so much... We will get a real mess. This way at least facemakers know that almost all models are of the approximately same size (just models from original FIFA 14 need to be converted yet).
I think it would be better, and that is what I agree with, is to do this just with a few head models that are enormous for some reason, like Chiellini, or as I saw Sean Johnson, and some other players. But to do all players ever is ridiculous... (and even these players should be resized only to match other converted faces, not the FIFA 14 originals, for the reason I stated above).
If there was a time to think about this, it was in 2017, when we got a new converting method. Now, I think it's a bit too late. Again I say, thumbs up, I know you have the best intentions, but do it all or don't do it at all.
PS. This is nothing personal @Pillowbiter , you know I have a great respect for you.
