I am positively surprised with the graphics. Lightning is really good and sometimes the players does look photorealistic in cutscenes. The MLS and La Liga presentations are also a really nice addition. The game visually improved, the gameplay not so much. If we are able to mod the game again, I'll buy it.

Definitely waiting to try the PES 2018 pc demo. Does anybody know when they will release it?

I know it unfortunately, but the hope that it will be better there is always ...

Every year worse, I do not agree with Victor, for me the effects of light and colors are horrendous ... (N)

Honestly, I've tried both demos and neither felt like much to write home about. PES 2018 lighting looks nice though. So far I'm hating defense control (more like lackthereof) in Fifa and the set piece camera is god awful... WTF were they thinking? I know a lot of people complained about the free kick/penalty system in 17 but I actually enjoyed the free kicks on the demo but this year they've ruined stuff. That and the fact that EA's inertia regarding their contracts which they keep losing year after year and most of all the uncertainty about modding the game are big no no's for me. I don't think either game's actually really good but for the first time ever, PES seems to be less annoying than Fifa.

Edit: I'd also like to point out to those who may get over excited about "multiverse" legends in FU(CK)T that the concept of multilple versions of the same player seems to have first appeared on the Free-to-Play FIFA Online 3 game

The clubs are actually the ones to blame for signing those silly exclusivity deals, as it will mean less brand exposure because by becoming exclusive they are preventing their own brand from being shown to a larger audience. I don't understand why EA bothers with licenses nowadays as all they need for their FUT nonsense fantasy soccer are player names and likeness because for FUT real teams and oficial rosters are pointless and considering it's all they seem to care about...

There would be a way for companies to keep cashing in and making a wider audience pleased, which would be creating expansion packs with Teams, Leagues and Competitions, allowing consumers to customize their game, by choosing which competitions and teams they would like to have on their game...

Far more appealing than that FUT nonsense IMO and totally doable; Most games nowadays have that kind of dlc (like fighting games or racing games for example). Hell, at least you wouldn't be paying more for something that's already in the game you initially purchased.

    Sorry for the double post

That is the first thing that came to my mind when playing the demmo of fifa 18. What could be so hard about lighting things up a little at night?
And at a second look, day time sunny isn't so great either, with too much contrast players look to sharp at edges and the light is too intense.
One might think that this kind of stuff is done on purpose by EA so next year they corect it and announce this as a huge revolution, while make intentional mistakes at other aspects in order to have
another revolution next edition and so on...and I can think at a few examples like goalkeepers in 14 or 15, can't remember, when they were just stupid and next year it was corrected and heralded as
    a one in a century breakthrough...

That day match was washed out because it's Hazy weather. Not clear or cloudy.

But night was clear, the other night that looked washed out was hazy maybe [I didn't check that].

I gotta say that I don't understand how anyone can look at the lighting this year and think that it is done well. Whether it is a cutscene in which the sun white-washes everything, the failure to properly implement AO or SSAO correctly such that the lighting direction makes sense, or the fact that the game is simply too bright in one scenario and too dark in another (more commonly the former).

I am not a coder or software designer. I do not claim to know much, but I know what looks like the real world and what does not. Despite its shortfalls, the lighting in FIFA 17 was superior in that it did not gleam off of faces, create too much contrast, or wash out all color. Honestly, I thought that there was a bug with the lighting that they would patch... that is how bad it looks to me (I use a 4k 28" monitor calibrated to 100 cd/m2 with an iDisplay Pro color meter -- so it isn't my monitor!)

Yeah the light is too bright and shines too much in La Bombonera, especially during player substitutions.

But the light is definitely improved in the player models. Their faces are photorealistic, especially at night. That effect is not only achieved by textures but because of the light.

Agree 100%, but it's not exclusive to 18, FIFA had problems with lighting since forever, especially during night time, i.e. dark shoes and goalnets in FIFA14. FIFA16 was pretty spot on in terms of shaders, but since Frostbite's introduction it got worse. 17 was pretty dark already and now it's even darker. It is a big shame since 3D models and textures are obviously the best in the series so far.

For me it feels like the newest FIFAs are still being experiment on with mediocre results. They are based on new engine which isn't designed with sports simulators in mind, and it's not even built by EA. That's way the gameplay feels clunky because old and known mechanics don't translate well onto new engine with more complex physics and collisions algorythms. The whole gameplay should be redesigned but we know that will never happens as long as there is annual release cycle.

To me, FIFA 11 is still the best looking FIFA.

    Totally agree with you.

The grass colors were best in FiFA 11. Even though night grass wasn't as bright as real stadiums, it still looked great.

Also, FiFA 2005 had great lighting. The grass colors were great.
