Fifa 09 Or Pes 2009?

Hey guys, I downloaded both Fifa 09 & PES 2009 demo for the pc. Played both of them and can't come to a conclusion of which one to buy. I'm an ardent Fifa fan so it is normal for me to choose the Fifa 09. But i was pretty impressed with the PES 2009's gameplay and with the champions league addition. There are a few factors i am contemplating on.

Fifa has all the licensing for all the teams with team names, kits, stadiums, manager mode & etc. This is a huge plus point as every detail will be accurate. However, in PES we can't even get to see the details of a team like Blackburn Rovers with team name as Lancashire and they don't have the normal sponsors on the kits. Even for the champions league in PES i've heard that most of the teams do not have the original names and kits. This is a disappointment in PES. Even the German leagues do not have their original names. Despite all the itinery it lacks, they make an impact on this year's graphics, player models (accurate faces) and most importantly the great and flowing gameplay and ball physics. :33vff3o:

Fifa 09 gameplay has improved with the AI being smarter. Next-gen graphics for PC and players on the demo looked great with even sweat and veins of the players can be seen. :bouncy: They have a nice turf. But the size of the ball looked slightly oversized. With all these nice things on Fifa it still doesn't give the satisfaction of PES gameplay. Despite FIFA trying to add realism in their gameplay, somewhat somewhere i still feel the gameplay is still a bit artificial. There are so many pros n cons for both the game. While reading the reviews it seems that FIFA came out on top which makes me prone closer to fifa. :browsmiley: Am i making the right choice? Hope someone can help me to clear my confusion and guide me to the ideal game. Please help!!

Cheers

Well if you're looking to buy for PC I would recommend PES2009. I have played the FIFA 09 demo and I didn't really like it...yeah it was more free-flowing but it was still 'linear' like in 08 and 07. I agree with many of your comments.

Now it is true that FIFA 09 might have all the licenses, stadiums, etc, but the beauty of PES2009 on PC is that you can edit everything that is unlicensed. Leagues such as the EPL and Spanish Primera can easily be edited with correct kits, boots, balls, etc. in the same way FIFA can.

Personally I don't see the point of doing all that for PES since it's incredible edit mode is more than enough. Either way the point is do not let the lack of licenses, etc. affect your decision as it can be easily overcome :)

Plus I'd also pick PES because I simply love its graphics compared to FIFA 09 on PC. Like you said, the kits, faces, and gameplay are incredible.

Now I haven't played the PES demo but the gameplay HAS to be good since I read it is that of PES5 which was pretty d@mn good :D

So if I were you I'd go with PES2009 simply because I think it's better...now on consoles it's a different story but thats my opinion :)

well interista13, I dont really understand this:
"the point is do not let the lack of licenses, etc. affect your decision as it can be easily overcome"

Of course licencses should affect your decition.

IF you think licenses, atmosphere and amount of leagues (etc.) is important, then buy Fifa 09.

IF you think the gameplay is more important, then buy PES 09.

Either way, you can update it, if you're not satisfied with the gameplay for Fifa, you can download a gameplay patch, if you're not satisfied with PES, you can edit names, logos, turf, kits etc.

Well Sundsvall you pretty much summed it up nicely :)

What I meant is that say you don't want to get PES2009 because the EPL is "fake". I'm saying that this shouldn't be your main reason not to get it because you can easily edit the EPL and put in the real kits, real team names, real logos, etc.

And you can do that 2 ways, either by patching up the game or using the extensive edit mode ingame

Fifa 09 Or Pes 2009?

Ok to be frank my heart goes for PES 2009. If i can edit the kits, and EPL logos and team names, i know i can do it in the edit features. But will the exact kit models be around for it. I also know that alot of people who do patches for Fifa series. I don't really know of someone who makes patches for PES. I know that MonkeyDragon makes patches for Fifa. If i want to download these patches for PES which website do i go to?

Interista i believe you should also try the demo for PES 2009. It's really cool. On the graphics scale, yes PES has done an awesome job. Does PES have player chants like they do in FIFA? I've played alot of FIFA games but i'm kinda new to PES. I've only played PES on my PSP which doesn't really give the excitement that i got from the PC version of PES 2009. Player chants adds realism to the game. It's really essential as well. Can it be done??

If i purchase FIFA 09 is there a patch where i can upload PES 2009 gameplay patch to FIFA? Will it work? If it does then things are easier right? If it can't be done then i gotta seriously consider PES..

Lol, of course not. Fifa is Fifa and PES is PES and I'm glad there are 2 footie makers who look at the game in their own way though both have flaws. I have bought one and obtained the other and will continue to switch and enjoy both.

ive been a pes player for years now on xbox/ps i always said that pes was alot better with better gameplay untill pes09 came out. I rented both of them first fifa and i can say that it is without doubt the best football game ive played... i didnt even want to play fifa but the online mode in pes last year made me consider trying fifa. pes hasnt improved in the last 2 years okay the graphics are better but thats it. the players dont look as real as they do on fifa...the transfers arent even done...kits, set pieces are still boring and unrealistic. the champions league is quite good though quite easy to win first time, even the music is rubbish . in fifa the Be A Pro mode is excellent even online compared to become a legend in pes where u cant even call for a pass!! I advise everyone to have a go at fifa... its the only one ive ever played for morethan a day or so its awsome!

You cant be talking about PC versions. PS3 and Xbox 360 maybe Fifa is better dont know but at PC there is NO and doubt that PES is king. Fifa looks feels and behave like a 90´s game.

Well first of all Gemini is asking about the PC versions of the game and in that department PES2009 is the clear winner. Like I said unfortunately it isn't the same case for next gen consoles. So thanks Orgullo for pointing out what we all already know.

@Gemini: Well mate like I said, say you want to edit the EPL...you dont need to use patches. All you can use is the ingame editor. You can change nearly everything with the ingame editor, like I said. This is also why Konami made such a huge editor, because they knew people would want to add in the real kits, badges, etc. to the unlicensed league. In other words you really don't need patches :) To find a few sites about PES editing try googling it...I knew of evo-web.co.uk but I don't go there anymore because lately for me that site has been "acting up..." I'm not sure about the player chants but I'm sure it can be done :)

And yes I would like to try the PES2009 demo but I simply haven't had the time to :(

Fifa 09 Or Pes 2009?

Thanks Interista, I think i have an idea of which game to get. By the way Orgullo dude i was asking for pc as i don't own either a xbox 360 or ps3. Clearly for 360 n ps3 fifa 09 beats pes. I was just confused for PC cos ultimately both looked good in their own ways trying to outclass each other. Well i got to know people's opinion as well now and i'm gonna weigh the options. Seems like PES is edging out FIFA 09 for pc this time.

Cheers

I do, I have that all the time in PES. I press pass, the guy takes three steps, and then hes ran into the defender.

But the reaction times in FIFA are piss poor. Its like playing the game from Japan which is weird because it never used to be that way.
