First Impressions

Overall the game feels better

General looks and presentation

- Pitch looks niceley textured
- The in game menus are a huge improvement on 2005. You can actually see them even using a high resolution.
- Players faces look well textured e.g. spotty face Rooney, however hair texture is a little flat.
- Substitutions, 100% improved over the last two previous versions, they actually show the players who get substituted.
- Camera feels better than last year not too far away from action

Sound

- Commentary seems pretty good with mr enthusiastic Clive Tyldesley
- Not the best Oasis song to use imo, but I guess it has a good football game feel to it
- Ingame sound (need to listen a bit more), I will say that the atmosphere seems a little stale. Closer attention needed though

Gameplay

- Corners are improved with a clear direction system, have not had any freekicks yet . Not a fan of the throw-ins, can hardly win any of them (need more practive I guess). Goal kicks feel a lott better as well.

[MORE TO COME, as I played the game early this morning]

- Referee seems very responsive to what is going on, almost 100% consistant red cards on tackles from behind
- Hand ball rule seems to be in place
- Advantage rule indicated by small animation in top left of screen

Conclusion so far

The games presentation with regards to ingame menus is a big improvement over the last couple of years. The gameplay feels better from what I have seen so far and overall this game plays better than the last couple of installments.

Just noticed that the extra time appears near the scoreboard when it arrives the 44min. of the first half; it appears like: +4mins.

Also once i saw the sign near the scoreboard showing a referee giving the advantage rule: i've made a fault but the ball was still kept by the opponent team.

Well there's some improvement in gameplay AI is somewhat better so keeper's AI, some saves were amazing has nothing to do with AI though the animation is better, however the interaction of the keeper with the game could be improved. The ball physics are somewhat buggy, the corners are better this way, though i miss the "move any player as you want" like in FIFA 96/97/98/99, didn't have any direct free kick yet nor a penalty though so i can't give an opinion there. The goal kicks feel somewhat the same not like they felt bad.

How can i write RENDER_EVERY_AI_FRAME=1 ? to where ?

i've wrote it to cfg_pc_h but it doesn't change anything.. i think..

i remember it must write into other file from old Fifas.. i'm wrong ?

You should copy cfg_pc_h as cfg_pc_m and cfg_pc_l cause sometimes FIFA detects a low computer and doesn't use cfg_pc_h...

FIFA 2006 DEMO (waiting for the final version) review

After a lot of months waiting, finally the demo is in our hands and coming soon the final game. We have a lot of expectatives about this game, overall after see that the aspects of the each version year game were only a little updated from the previous versions. Knowing that some staff of this game comes from Konami we hope a great improve of the gameplay, lets see if this game complish our hopes and if is it the great fifa title that all were waiting.

GRAPHICS

As each year, EA mantains the spectacular vision of football, with great pans of the stadiums, fans, and the real breath and ambient that a football title requieres. There´s a lot of improvements on this aspect, but some "takes" reminders a lot to pass versions of the game. At the long and medium planes the game looks very great and realistic, thing that is impossible to understand when it comes a first plane of the players and you realize about the kits and faces textures are not so good, seing poor detailed textures and very polygoned meshes. This last aspect breaks a lot the graphical impression. The rest of the field have a nice look, nets, ball, picth stadium, etc.
The players are more or lest well modeled, but some animations are a bit "old" if you compare them with his eternal beast (WE and PES). We still seeing again that EA needs 3 diferents models depending of where the camera is it, and our eyes notice about it. At this point and whith the hardware that is able for our pc´s, this is not tolerable. The points of view from the cameras are better than past versions, they make the game more playable. Finally the menus are much better and not so confused than in 2005 or UEFA, they are in 1024x768 resolutions and looks nice.
But are all this aspects enought to convince the fifa fans that waits the definitive football game? The answer is clear, no. So, besides of this improvements, the shadow of past versions is again in the game and you have the feeling that it can be much better. But as always the "money machine" demands that the game is done now, this is a bad boss for a "most wanted" game, like fifa.

GAMEPLAY

In this aspect the game makes a drastical turn over the WE and PES aproching gameplay. The 50% of the gameplay reminds a lot to these games, indeed, the hand of the konami genious that ea use for this game is noticed a lot. The way of the passes to the space, the way of some tricks as the R2 button that is identical to the WE and PES versions (in this case a mix within pes3 and pes4, cause i think that in this aspect fifa is far to aproch to the gameplay of the last versions of konami game). As always, the analog stick makes nice tricks when defenders comes to our player. The off-pass option seems that is erased on this version, making the game more directly, sometimes too much directly, when i say this i mean that the game speed is exagerated, is not very real, and the rythm of the macth seems a continuos now is up to you, and now is up to you. The game for midfields players is very poor, here the important thing is attackers and defenders, making the game more arcade than simulator. But if you compare this version with the past versions, this aspect is noticed a few only, good aproch but not enought for really lovers of real football. By other side, the importance of the referees are much better, due they perfectly mark the faults from behind with a yellow card, the outsides are well done too. There´s a new system to shoot the freekicks and the corners. May be much difficult, but more acurate to the real football, i dont think that when Ronaldinho shoots a freekick then appears a rectangle on the net for to put the ball there. Now is more interesting to control this with only the power bar and the direction of the stick. As i said at the beggining the animations needs another face wash, overall when they are running, is not dramatic as in the real macthes. Finally, nice thing is to see how now the players can combine walk-run-walk for a better passes, etc, thing that is totally copied again from his rival beast. From the other side, fifa has all the licenses and all the players from all the teams, and this great database that is actulized with the last transfers is a thing very apreciated.
About the physics, is a thing that EA must to improve much more, ball is not so real as we want, and some passes are too much direct, drawing a perfetc line, thing that is not real, ball always take a little or more drastic curve in real world. Again in this aspect WE and PES wins. Is a thing that i cannot understand how the programers dont fix this aspect, due is very important, where´s the feeling of to know if you make the pass correctly or not? where´s the feeling of to know if the pass will arrive correctly to the other teamplayer and if he will controls the ball well?

MUSIC AND SOUND

Without any doubt, this game is the best in this aspect. EA always provides the better music and the better comentaries for each country (in the demo is in english, in the final version we will see if they improve new prhases, etc for each country comentarist). The ambient sound is totally awesome, the chants, the ball sound, the post, when you score and people turns mad, etc...in this aspect the game takes a 10, as always.

CONCLUSION

FIFA 2006 is a great football game much better than past versions, but, dont lie to ourselfs, they could improve much better a lot of things in this game. Is like a "i want but i cant". When you have so much spectations and the game dont fill you completly, what we need to do...thinking again in the next version?. I think that this is the continuos stigma of EA, to do a game that is not completly finished and pulished at 100%. Giving to the game a 7,9 or an 8 is ok for now. Overall thinking that is not comprensive that the game does run smooth in power machines, another stigma of EA, making again the "render_everyframe"?????

Game Tested on:
Pentium IV Extreme Edition 3,73
2 g. DDR2 533
ATI X850XT 256 GDDR3
Soundblaster Audigy 5.1
At:
1024x768x32 with hight detail.

hahaha, I'm a Winning eleven man, personally I don't like FIFA but now I've heard some good thing so I wanna try the demo.

However, when I run it, it f!cks up.

First of all, I can't even choose the friggin language. It just keeps skipping through them, and i'm supposed to time the moment I press enter.

ANYONE know why?

Also, same thing happens when I get in the game.

FIFA already disappointing me

That's because the game recognizes you as a Konami user, it's normal it will not respond then, ask someone else to start up the game maybe that will help but I'm affraid the EA spyware already send your IP adress to Canada, and the Mounted Police Corps is already otw...

I've just noticed that in the period of three days this forum has already have 130+ posts.
Strange that's the ammount for the FIFA 2005 forum, but in a month, if so much.

On the topic of the Demo, I'll rather wait for the full version to be released. Remeber before they released FIFA 2005 last year there was some screen shoots that looked just like FIFA 2004. To be quite honest I have never played a FIFA demo, so I don't know how different it is comparing to the fullversion, but as we all know EA does strange things.

To Mouta and Mister M. fighting is not the solution, that is why we have football.......even though in a match Portugal is difinately going to whip Holland's a**.

So they mind about the keeper holding the ball for more than 6 seconds.

However the keeper only goalie kicks the ball away after that.
Now somethins very strange, is it me or Vieri crashed against the post?
