FIFA 04 & Microsoft Sidewinder Game Pad

I have the same problem with fifa forgetting about my gamepad all of a sudden: I can select side for the first match, but as soon as the match begins, it exits to the menu, and now my controller is gone on the select side screen..

about running in compatibility mode
I haven't tried this, I'll try it later today (I got the same problem), I hope it will solve the problems
for the ones that don't know how to do it,
1. Go to where fifa is installed (ie. C:/program files/ea sports/fifa 2004/, or wherever you installed the game)
2. right click on the file 'fifa2004.exe' and click properties
3. click on the compatibility tab
4. check the option "run this program in compatibility mode for:"
5. Select Windows98/WindowsME or Windows2000 (some here claim it works with win98/winme, some cliam it works with win2000 compatibility)
6. try plaing the game, hopefully it will work for you as it did for others

I'm heading out to buy a new pad today - Either Logitech dual action gamepad (4 buttons on top, 2x2 triggers) or Logitech Wingman Rumblepad (6 buttons on top, 2 triggers).
...now if only the EA dev-team was in my reach, I'd know where to shove my good old gameport Sidewinder
FYI, I've opened a support case at uk.ea.com on this subject, and after convincing them about the problem not being solved by the update patch, they have put the case on pending, while they look for a solution.
I told them quite a few times, that a lousy piece of software like fifa 2004 is what makes people download pirate copies off the internet instead of buying anything. They did not comment on that.
