Feyenoord excluded from UEFA Cup

The UEFA Appeals Body has excluded Dutch club Feyenoord from the 2006/07 UEFA Cup following crowd disturbances by its fans at the UEFA Cup group-stage match against AS Nancy-Lorraine in France on 30 November last year.

Tougher sanction
UEFA announced on Friday that the Appeals Body had toughened its sanction against the Rotterdam team, by excluding Feyenoord from all of this season's UEFA competitions - including the current UEFA Cup, in which Feyenoord had progressed from the group stage to face England's Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Round of 32. The initial fine of CHF 200,000 (€123,615) was reduced to CHF 100,000 (€61,810).

UEFA appeal
The decision follows an appeal made by UEFA in accordance with Article 50 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, whereby "the parties directly concerned and UEFA have the power to appeal", after an initial decision by the body of first instance, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, on 7 December last year. The first decision comprised a fine of CHF 200,000 and a suspended sentence of two matches behind closed doors, on probation for three years.

Feyenoord appeal rejected
The appeal by Feyenoord against the original punishment handed down by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body was rejected. Feyenoord were also ordered to contact Nancy regarding settlement of the damages.
One of the most strict punishments I remember. Why so severe?

Why not though? It's not the first time they've had trouble in the competition. Good. However hopefully Tottenham will play someone else and won't get a bye.

They're making an example of them. Not a bad move. Clubs should do more to control their "supporters."

That's a lot of money lost, and you can bet Feyenoord will react swiftly and angrily to the idiots responsible for the damage.

Because they beated up woman and children in the stadium of Nancy, because they destroyed the city of Nancy and because they made Timmer cry. (H)

Fair punishment, they got very lucky with the first decision made about a month ago.

It's been coming for the so called Feyenoord fans. I've experienced them first hand and they've been let away for far too long.

Home and away they cause trouble and I hope this hurts the club in the pocket and they fail to get into Europe for years to come.

Yeah, that's a reason aswell for this 'severe' punishment. They had alot of these 'incidents' before aswell.

Feyenoord were trying to get off without paying anything and UEFA have stood up and kicked them out altogether.

I doubt any incidents before have come into this because if they did why has it taken so long to get them punished?

Well the punishments got with every incident a little higher. After the lighter thrown at the Sporting goalie they already had to play one match behind closed doors. Now the UEFA just said enough is enough, which is a good thing IMO

Well that was because a certain bunch decided to murder 39 people. Unfair to other English clubs but a correct punishment for the club concerned.

I've also experienced the Feyenoord support a little too close up and whilst it's an unusual punishment, I'm not at all surprised.

I'll give them this; they're f*cking mental!

man that's harsh but hopefully it will calm those maniacs down.

The team with the best record that didn't make it should play Tottenham.
