Haha thanks for the advice man This Full Moon Party is a special anniversary one, and it goes on over three nights, so hopefully it wont be so much of a disappointment. I dont know where we'll be heading afterwards, I always thought Koh Samui was to be avoided but maybe I'll be able to check out the Marine Park briefly.Vazza;2349258 said:Been to Thailand, loved it. I stayed at the Coral bungalows, which is on the sunset side of Had Rin on Koh Phan Gan, so we had beautiful views in the evenings. Try and find somewhere a bit further out from the town to stay if you can because it tends to be overun with revellers further in, which can get annoying when you just want to relax in the evening rather than hear drunken singing in the early hours (the place I stayed was 5 minutes away from the town, so it was quiet but near enough to walk to the town).
The Full Moon party was a bit of a disappointment. The beach was packed out but there wasn't much of an atmosphere...think part of it is that it's over-hyped, so when you actually experience it seems a bit of a let down.
Chaweng, which is on the east coast of Koh Samui is heaving, full of Western influences like Burger King, McDonalds, Starbucks etc, so avoid if you're after a more "authentic" experience of Thailand.
The one place I'd definitely recommend going to is Anthong National Marine Park in Koh Samui. You get there by speedboat, which is pretty cool and can go snorkelling, kayaking around the islands and there are plenty of nice small beaches for picnics. The guides will try to pimp one of the local girls...GUARANTEED
Oh BTW, most of the locals don't speak English but around the tourist areas, you'll be fine. Anyway, I found hand signals tended to get the message across when comminication proved to be a problem.
How expensive is it over there? I have been hoping that it's like Kenya, where $10 will get you a hotel room for the night, $5 a good meal etc, but the country seems much more developed than I thought it was so maybe this isnt the case?
Also, what did you reckon to Bangkok? Is it worth spending some time in, or a bit of a hole as some people seem to suggest?
With regards to prostitutes, I have heard they are extremely cheap and available en masse, so I'm thinking of hiring a fifty or so and have them reinact my favourite historical battles
