Goo Goo boy
Senior Squad
Meh, Diego was my favourite player on earth when he played at Santos...and quite honestly I may be the only porto fan that was quite happy with him.
Last year, when the ship was sinking with Couceiro and Fernandez he played well in every single game i saw and he looked like he was wiling to fight for porto just like any good portista would. He was man marked in every single game and even though his grades in the match reports were good, journalists always found a way to blame him only because porto didn't win. Journalists focus too much on the number 10, and they forget there has to be a very well structured and dynamic team to support him. Well, no one in that squad knew each other in the start of the season, and the group kept constantly changing and becoming more and more decadent.
This year i liked his performances. Although he started the season injured, he always fought hard to return to the team and kept struggling throughout the whole season. He was professional.
The thing is: Co Adriaanse started to play in a 3-3-4. Diego can't play as a second forward neither as the two box-to-box positions that RMeireles, Ibson, Cech and Lucho performed so well.
I'm glad he went to a good club and everyone got along just fine. But I honestly believe he had no responsability for his lack of glory in here, he was just unlucky with the circumstances. He came in a hang-over year and in the next season we signed a coach that uses one of the few tactics that don't include a nr 10. Bad luck.
Farewell Diego, i'd be glad to see you back, at the right time.
And get ready to learn german.
