Hey Kader, I'm sorry to say that Hélder Postiga would never sign for FC Infesta. He's Porto's new star, a true young talent. Anyway, if you got him, keep him. He's money (at least in real life!)

My team needs some adjustments. I'm going to play a little now, so I can catch up with you guys!

I would have started Infesta myself a few days ago but I couldnt find Infesta in Portugal! Then I too realised I wasnt loading devison B!

So far I have signed Sebastian Barnes, Zivanovic (player/coach), Lorenzo (player/coach), Smaida and Estica.
Lost the first friendly against Naval 3 - 2 (scorers were Nelson and Wilson) got 7's from Miguel, Marcelo, Wilson and an 8 from Tavares.
With these new players I should start to win challenge. Will keep you posted on developments.

How many foreign players are you allowed in Portugal!! Alora, wasnt this hard to get talent in Italy. I keep hitting this anoying EEC rule! Had to let 2 Brazilians go on a free (Danilson and Cleber) and I just had two deals for non eu players fall through includeing Adriano!! Alora. This is already harder than I expected

Kader, have you been playing with the editor again? How did you get Postiga on a free transfer? In my game he costs 950k, and FC Infesta only has 750k for transfers! And Neider Morantes was a free transfer, but wanted a 28k per/mo salary! Come on now, you can tell ME, have you been going behind the scenes? BTW, thanks for the Dunga tip, I'm looking into a deal.

Still no word on Pinheiro.
I was able to offer a contract to To Madeira, but so did two other clubs.
You might want to send a scout to Africa, I'm trying to sign a stiker from Senegal.

The 42121 finally generated some offence with 14 shots and 6 of them on goal. Marcelo and Denilson executed a beautiful combination in the 23rd minute, while the last goal was reflex shot when the ball came off a defender.

Duarte and the defence did well together, but there were several lapses when opponents were left unmarked. Heading accuracy is also very poor.

Overall evaluation- VERY GOOD (but we were playing Amateurs)

Questions: Do your defenders show inconsistency? Last game Elio rated an 8 and was Man-of-the-Match. This time he rated a 5.

Also, here in the States the media usually shows player salaries as so many dollars per year, but in Europe isn't it more common to see the figures as English pounds per month? Whichever is more popular is fine with me. INFESTA, you're the boss, which should we use?

Out of the cup! Not all togther a bad thing as I havent got the squad to do the cup this year as well as the division fight... and what a fight it is. Sooo many weird attack formations to counter!!
I am 12th in the league after 5 games (1 2 2) lost the first 2 games but then the results turned when I beat Famalicao 4 - 0 (Jokic got all 4 goals in that match!). Jokic is my top scorer with 7 goals.. have a leaky defence at present. need a better DC than Staelens. Hes a good coach but a dodgy player, but then he is 37!
I am scoreing the first goal but giveing one away!! need to resolve this issue if I am too progress to the title... which is my aim... not just promotion for me

Just before the buying season ended I snagged Moraitis (AML but can and does play ML very well too). As an EEC citizen I swap him out with Barnes when I want to put Zivanovic in goal and always keep Jokic in attack. This 3 non eu players is a pain... and the total non EEC players you are allowed is 4! 4 out of 44 seems alittle too strict imo. The rules protect Port. football players and the national team? Well then why is Italy doing so well nationally when 3/4 of every team both on and off the pitch are foreign? Bah!

I agree with the non ECC players restriction. We have a lot of young talent that didn't get their share of playing before. Our competitions, perhaps surprisingly, raised the bar one notch ever since. Besides, you can have almost as many brazilians as you would like, due to an agreement between the two countries.

Here's something you don't know: Only the first gets promoted! No prizes for ending up 2nd overall.

Carlos, I pay my wages in "Escudos" on a monthly basis. I think it's OK to use whatever system you're more confortable with!

First of all what do u mean AGAIN? 2nd of all Postiga was on a free. 3rd of all I had 1 miliiion for the tranfsers. 4th of all I dont think u r playing in CM 00-01. Dont u have the newest version-01-02?

I have Bruno Conceicao and Sabugueiro arriveing 19/6. Unfortunately there just isnt the skill lvl in the team to win the league this year... well I cant see the way. I am 7th after 15 games on 24pts. The leader, Leixoes are on 32pts with 10 wins!
Anyway has been ... interesting and frustrating

Update : 2nd in Div B after 24 games. Unfortunately Leixoes is 10pts out in front... so probably no chance to catch them
Jokic has 22 league goals from 24 appearences, Marcelo is my 2nd highest scorer with 9 goals, not bad for a midfeilder and Sebastian Barnes has the highest assists with 10. Overall we have scored 50 goals and conceeded 30. 2 players in the highest Av. rateing list, Jokic 7.96 and Bruno 7.45.

Update 2 : 2nd in Div B after 33 games. Leixoes are 1pt in front with 5 games to play includeing one against them Due to injuries I have been finding goals harder to come by.. Barnes out for 1 month, Jokic out for 2 weeks, Smaida out for 2 weeks on 2 occassions! and Estica out for 3 weeks.
Still 72 goals for and 37 against... so a gain of 22 with only giving away 7... defence is improveing. I played the 3 defenders 4 midfeilders 1amc and 2 strikers at Inter.. didnt think I had the defenceive quality at Infesta, I was wrong. If I get the time to finish the season Infesta will be promoted.

Hi.
Seems like Dave is doing well. Although, I have to say that it is very unlikely to see more than 4/5 foreigners (other than brazilian) in a 2nd Div. B side. I was trying to keep it as real as possible, but hey, it's all good with me.

Yes, friends, I didn't make a mistake. I was trying. Unfortunately I started all over again, in order to include the latest update patch (provided by a portuguese CM site) and, above all, to have the brazilian and spanish championships running on the background.
I played the game for a entire hour and a half, made a couple breakthrough tranfers, I even got one skillful striker from Paraguay for free (and now I don't remember his name) and...you guessed it, the bloody thing crashed. I believe this was all caused by the infamous CM update I installed.

I'll need a couple days to reinstall the game and start it all over.

All right, Kader, I apologise once more. I'm sorry I accused you behind-the-scenes manipulation. You're probably correct in the differences being in our game versions. Just pass it off as frustrated jealousy because we 01-02 managers have to pay so much for these guys

Dave_H, hope you can return soon. And don't forget to check in when you get back, I'll still be short of 24 games! BTW, did you try to get Pinheiro as GK, do you think a better GK could get you to the top in the competition? That leads me to another rookie question: How do you know if the opponents goal is the fullbacks fault or the GK?

Knight Saber, glad to have you with us and don't worry about your speed. Most of us are quite slow and you will have no problem keeping up with us. Be sure to read all of the posts and you will get an idea of what players are available.

Speaking of which, everyone may want to check out a striker from Ivory Coast (I previously said Senegal, my mistake) who is rated 3 stars above Amaral and only 1 star below To Maderia. His name is Guy G'Badie, he is a free transfer, and will sign for 2400/month.

Horrible game by Carlos, opponents shot 3 times and scored twice! Both times he didn't move. Fullbacks were adequate, but if the ball got behind them, it was in.

Offence was quite sluggish, with 5 shots and only 1 on goal.

Overall evaluation: UNACCEPTABLE

Was very surprised at the poor showing by Carlos, so I gave him another chance the very next game. I wanted to see if he would bounce back and play a great game.

Carlos began poorly and was caught flat-footed early in the game.

G'Badie inspired the offence. He had several shots, nicely assisted Paralta, and was fouled in the box to give us the penalty. We finished with 13 shots, 7 on goal.

Overall evaluation: GOOD, GK let us down

Well, I prefer the update, if I can get it to work. It has all major transfers and, most of all, has the correct positionng of our good old FC Infesta players (Sérgio as an AM, etc.)

Rookie question: can I assign players to mark specific opponents? For instance, CB defends the opposite CF?

Absolutely, man marking is always how I play.
Just before you start your game against an opponent, check their formation and notice their strikers.

Then go to your formation, go down the list of names, and right click on the defender you want. His personal instruction window will be displayed, at the bottom choose man defense, the choice arrow will appear on the right and you instruct him to mark the proper opponent.

BTW, be sure to check the opponents formation at the half, they have been known to change things! Good luck!

Had to do it..

After getting so far I had to finish.. so I did.

well.. the game against Leix was hard.. they scored first, but good old Jokic equalised late in the 2nd half so we split the points. Last game of the season I was 1 point ahead and I lost to Joane!! but Leix also lost so I finished the season WINNER of Div B North.
Final stats 38p 24w 10d 4l 86gf 47ga 82pts

Players in highest Avg table Jokic (7.97) and Sebastian Barnes (7.50) ... Bruno dropped out of the table when he pulled a groin muscle (out for 3 months!!).

Goalscorers in 47th place Marcelo (15) and in 1st Jokic (35)
Assist in 10th place Sebastian Barnes (15)
MoM Sebastian Barnes (4), Jokic (10)
Marcelo appeared 38 times and was my Captain.

Finished the season with 60,000 in the bank, no transfer money.. upto 2 games to go I was running in debt but the last 2 games were at home.

I playes 3 4 1 2 .. this was a hybrid from 442 attacking. I moved the defenders around to make 3 central defenders and put one up front to form an amc... that way the left and right midfeilders had arrows in attack... but it seems to be more effective than just putting them on forward runs.
Central defenders on the right and left man marked 2 attackers. with the middle defender on zonal. Central midfeild also had zonal marking. Rest of the team had none.
L and R Midfeild, AMC and Jokic had run with ball on. I got 1 penalty every 2 to 3 matches this way.
Most of the time I used Attack... unless they had counter attack on then I used Normal. Tackle was on Normal. Passing was Mixed. Men behind ball I used for the first half of the season then switched to Normal.

Was a fun and rewarding season in the end. Not sure if I prefered playing Inter.. a very different game.... its not harder at Infesta, just a different game plan.

ps Carlos. Its hard to tell whos fault a goal is, I usually blame the defenders... like in real life the goalkeeper is decoration if the rest of the team play as they should. But if any of my players are playing a 5 they get subbed. And in the 2nd half I will selectively sub any player on a 6... except the goalkeeper... who I only ever sub through injury or if he playes a 4.
GK.. I used Bruno until he was injured.. more than good enough... as the season developed so did he. Back up goalkeeper at end of season was Zivanovic but at 41 he will be a coach from now on... I have Bruno Conceicau arriveing on the 19/6 who will become the no1 goalkeeper.

its OK Carlos Now when I think about it, I am not surprised u thought I cheated. If on your game a player is worth 1 milion and I get him for free- well, yeah-it seams suspicious
With Postiga- he was always on a free in CM 00-01 and when I was in poor clubs like from POlish league- I always signed him, and later on I was sattisfied. It is a bit unfair that I got him, and you cant-so what do you want me to do?
