They never had a plan to replace the aging stars, and not only that, but they sold guys who were part of the plan. It all came to a head this year, which was inevitable at some point. Gotze was never a winger, Muller either really. The damn midfield right now is Lahm, Schweinsteiger, and Alonso since Pep moved Martinez into defense. Robben and Ribery can't be counted on anymore (if Ribery ever really could be).

They are going to have a lot of questions to answer if they don't make big moves this summer. At the very least, a top class all around midfielder is needed to actually replace Kroos.

This isn't true though. I agree, from what I saw, he wasn't really integral to Barça's general play, but his 3-0 makes it that much more difficult, even psychologically, than just 2.
