i dont think it looks funny. Tbh im a fan of radical changes ...the nose on the Williams 2 seasons ago looked ridiculous and didn't really work too well but i thought it was cool to see some drastic modifications and the creative interpretation of the rules and regulations.

some more info:

The FIA consultation on the future of Formula One clearly demonstrated that the vast majority of the viewing public (94% according to the FIA/AMD survey) want more overtaking. This is at a time when overtaking in Formula One has become increasingly difficult.

Most aerodynamic research aims to improve a car’s performance when running in what is known as ‘clean’ air which has not been disturbed by the wake of a car running in front. However, in race conditions when cars follow each other closely, the wake of the car in front significantly reduces the aerodynamic performance of the following car, making overtaking extremely difficult and often impossible.

As a general rule, the better the aerodynamic performance of a car on its own, the worse its effect on the car behind and the greater the loss of performance for that car.

In order to encourage overtaking, the FIA initiated a programme of research into improving the aerodynamic performance of a car when trying to overtake. The objective was to produce regulations for a car shape which would create a wake in which a following car would generate more downforce with reduced drag.

With the help of the FIA’s technology partner AMD, the FIA’s research team have reached a preliminary conclusion which the FIA is now able to publish. The CDG Wing (Centreline Downwash Generating Wing) will be presented to the Formula One Commission meeting in London today.

“This new research is important for the future of Formula One," stated FIA President Max Mosley. "By introducing the CDG wing we can give motor sport fans exactly what they have asked for, wheel-to-wheel racing with much more overtaking. It is our hope that the teams will collaborate with us in the optimisation of this radical new idea so that the aerodynamic benefits can be introduced into Formula One in 2007 rather than having to wait until 2008.”

It is intended that the CDG Wing, together with wider wheels and slick tyres, will form part of the 2008 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. With the support and collaboration of the teams it may be possible to introduce these changes as early as 2007.

"It’s clear the FIA has listened to the feedback of its key constituents - F1 fans around the world - and has taken a bold, innovative approach to improving overtaking and therefore creating a more exciting race experience," explained AMD Executive Vice President Henri Richard. "AMD is committed to encouraging innovation and creativity and to helping the world's leading organizations take advantage of the phenomenal impact of our technology."

Not pleasing on the eye for me, makes it look like a fighter jet. I read about the qualifying rules, it makes it look like A1.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new qualifying format - devised by Ecclestone - will consist of three sessions, with the slowest five cars dropping out after the first 15 minutes, with another five subsequently dropping out after a second session. The 10 remaining fastest cars will then fight for pole position during the remaining 20 minutes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

p.s, how many teams are there for next season? 10 or 11?

Confusing stuff :chew: The current system seems fine by my book (Y)

So... if I get this qualifying thing right... We've effectively got a superpole system?

Well, it works for DTM, but this just sounds like Bernie being very bored.

Nice to see some changes, though I guess that'll reduce slipstreaming? and the tracks where overtaking is hard (Monaco, Hungary) will still be hard to overtake in...

about the qualifying system... I wanted the old 1 hour/12 laps qualifying system back...

Great news. F1 need more overtaking.

I don't like the changes in the qualifying system though.

What about the tyres? It's one of the new rules I've heard. They can change the tyres again but with a limit of one man per tyre.

It'll promote slipstreaming, as the following car will benefit from the dropping tailwind when braking for the corner. They don't have to brake much earlier than the car they follow like now.

Not sure about the number of teams next year just yet... Might be 10, or 11, or 12 even.
Honda are trying to get their second team running in time for 2006. Apparently so are Mercedes, but their entry is more likely for 2007.

There will be tyre changes, yes, but in what format isn't clear (to me anyway, but I did hear about the one-guy-per-wheel scenario). FIA will release another statement after their World Motorsports Council votes on the rule changes tomorrow in Rome.

The changes ain't that bad. i was wondering were my indian freind will be in next season.

Again, the one man tyre rule is what the A1 has. And to be honest, this can pretty much work against the team itself.

The counsil has agreed to the proposals. If the teams give a unanimous vote for the slick tires and the new rear wing in a December meeting, they will be introduced in the 2007 season. If not it will be 2008.

Yes, and the fueling rules are awkward as well. First half hour is on low fuel, last twenty minutes will be started with the first fuel load for the race. Pole position will not be the fastest time set in qualifying, weird.

Back of the grid?

I miss the good old days when Jordan was something. Back in the days of Frentzen.

These new wings will obviously be more robust than the old ones, too. So we won't see the spectacular rear wing failures that look so cool.

yep. I remember those races in 99. Monza and Magny-Cours. The Jordan cars looked so much cooler then also... some of the best paint jobs in F1.
