Barcelona close to deal for PSV's Van Bommel

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain could close a deal for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mark van Bommel by the end of next week.

Van Bommel is off contract in the summer and has offers on the table from Barca and AC Milan for next season.

DiarioSport says Begiristain has stepped up contact with van Bommel's representatives over the past week and is confident of clinching his signature.

Despite a rival offer from Milan, Van Bommel favours Barca, where he will work with coach Frank Rijkaard and also has a good recommendation from his PSV teammate Phillip Cocu.

Only minor details of the contract need to be finalised and its suggested Van Bommel could put pen to paper before the end of the month.

Ballack has also been linked with us.

Barça already did an offer for him last season that Bayern rejected. Now it seems he wants to leave München.

He has given to his new born son the name Jordi (George in catalan), don't know if that means anything for his future ...

I guess is van Bommel or Ballack, not both (although next season it's world cup year and that means less time to play all the games. There will be only 3 weeks without midweek games).

I was sceptical when Ballack was first linked with Barcelona. I didn't appreciate him, really. But he's made me change my opinion about him and I'd be very pleased to see him in Barca. I prefer him to VB.

Ballack is a very good player but we don't need him. I accept van Bommel because he will come for free. I wouldn't pay for another AM when we have Xavi, Deco and Iniesta. Ballack would be a waste of money.

Yeah well VB has an offer from Milan also but i'm pretty sure he will join Barca, thanks to a bit of help from Cocu. :D

Just to add we are linked with Patrice Evra also, he is an awesome LB, it is reported Madrid and Barca are targeting him in the summer...

Sport.es is the only one confirming the transfer. Nor El Mundo Deportivo nor any dutch sites/newspapers say anything about it. Marca says VB is close, but Sport is the only newspaper confirming it. So it's not official yet, but I expect the news soon... :)
