"We have to learn to make sure it doesn't happen again"

Maxi López admits, "we learnt an important lesson" in London, and that "we have to learn to make sure it doesn't happen again." The League is the aim now.

The players could do nothing to hide their frustration at being knocked out of the Champions League. It came as a huge shock to all concerned, but it is now time to lift up the collective head and start concentrating on not letting the league title slip away. Maxi Lopez certainly falls in with that line of thinking: "Qualification meant so much to us and all the people who support us. We know we have missed out on something big but there is still something lovely left for us to, and that's win the league."

But to do that, Barcelona really cannot afford to make the same kind of mistakes. And Maxi knows that "we have to learn to make sure that it doesn't happen again. We have to improve and make a few changes, but our minds are focused on getting better day by day".

The team in the face of adversity

Continuing with the theme of how Barcelona needs to reshape after European elimination, Maxi highlighted the way that the team was able to bounce back from a disastrous situation at Stamford Bridge, when Chelsea scored three goals in the first 20 minutes: "The three early goals made things extremely difficult for us, but we knew how to react and played the game as if we were two equal sides. And that shows that we are able to cope with adverse situations."

The Argentinian tried to explain where he felt things had gone wrong. "We were up against a very good side and I think there was something of a loss of concentration. They've got some fast players that created a series of counterattacks that hit us badly."

Always out to score

In the first leg, Maxi López came on and turned the game. He scored the equaliser and also played a role in Eto'o's goals that made it 2-1. But history did not repeat itself at Stamford Bridge. "I came on at a difficult time, with us losing. Whenever I go on, it's to score goals. I'm not disappointed that I didn't score, I'm more disappointed that we didn't achieve our aim of qualifying for the next round".

to all barça fans, i'm a brazilian soccer fan as well, me and a couple of friends watched the game, and it was a really sad thing what happened against chelsea.
the same thing happened wich Brazil's 82 National Team, unfortunatly this is bad for futebol, Rjikaard is 100 times the coach Mourinho is, the difference is that Rjikaard trusts his team attacking abilities, and attacks all the time, while Mourinho uses dirty methods before the game, put 10 players holding back 5 on defense, and teaches his defenders things like holding the keeper.
barcelona should hire Dagoberto, he would be perfect for Barça, I don't think Giuly corresponded the way he should...didn't do much all season.
Wich Dagoberto, eto'o and ronaldinho, barça would be unstopable.

we've discused that a lot here. Different football styles.

and about Dagoberto. He sounded for Barça some time ago as a possible signing for next summer, but no more news since then about this. He seems to be a good player.

No news about Motta lately, I don't know when will he be back. Also there's the doubt if he will play like before the injury because with these long term injuries you never know.

The lineup for the Athletic match, 30 minutes left.

Belletti----Puyol--Oleguer---Sylvinho

I'm glad Gio doesn't play.

To be fair to him, he's had some physical problems basically all year and he hasn't healed properly various times, but in the preseason , start of the league and at times we've seen how good he is but i think those injuries have been bothering him alot of times. Remember that one of his main attributes is his speed and if you have muscle or leg problems it affects the way you run.
