England vs West Indies 2nd test, Edgbaston

a good start at 313-5 at close of play especially good to see Flintoff and Jones at he crese building good innings the average partnership with them in the middle is 111!!!!! pretty good! The west Indian bowling attack was so much better today with the welcome addition of Corey Collymore things were gonig to get better. Also their fielding was better. I am personally amazed that Robert Key got 221 in the first innings, but that was down to dreadful fielding more than anything. So i wasn't too suprised when he was out for 29 today. Good to see Trescothick get a century he has had a rough time of late. This is a good start to a difficult test match. Will England's class show though? Or will the Windies inexperience shine though.

Played Freddy

England 566-9 dec.
WIndies 184-2 (Lara 74, Sarwan 82)

We need to end this partnership quickly today and then rattle them out (H)

Windies were skilttled out yesterday. It looks to be all over if we set them a score of about 450.

Chanderpaul is far better. I don't rate Sarwan at all, gets out cheaply do often. The future Windies captain is Bravo in my opinion.

England win again, Giles takes 9 wickets in the match :ewan:

The Windies really need to bat first next time, England have just posted huge totals and the Windies are crap at chasing totals. They crumble more than England under pressure.

I think there is no doubt the windies have class BATSMEN in Lara, Sarwan and Chanderpaul but lack something in the bowling department. Yes in 3 or 4 more years Dwanye Bravo may become a world class player, but he is an all rounder he is not smoeone the West Indies can some to rely on to take many many wickets, or score many many runs. Ridley Jacobs is 36 now Lara is 35 two major players, who is going to replace them? Who is lined up? No one. With the days of Curtley Amborse and Courtney Walsh gone i don't see much immediate future for the West Indies. But England are fast becoming a world class test team. Nasser Huisenn and Micheal Vaughun have worked wonders the team is at its best for a long time. Bring on the Aussies in 2005!:p

We are looking very good, but I am looking forward to seeing what we can go against a better team. I mean, lets face it, niether the New Zealand or West Indies teams were exactly the cream de la cream. We beat them very convincingly and did everything right, but I'm not so sure how we would do against Australia or South Africa. I cant wait for the next ashes, that's for sure.

oh yeah, cant wait for the Ashes, personally im happy to be seeing Vaughan playing well again.

Trescothick still worries me, i play cricket a lot and for me he fishes far too much outside off-stump, i can imagine McGrath bowling a few down 1ft outside off and sooner or latter he will have a paddle at one and knock it to the slips.

Hopefully Butcher will be in for Key, i know he made 200 in the first test but Butcher is proven at the highest level.

Im a big fan of Strauss, looks very confident when he comes to the wicket, a trait that is often associated with Aussies! ;) ;)

Flintoff and Thorpe yet again look great, though i do question Freddys temperament against a cleverly sensible aussie attack, we shall have to wait and see.

The bowling attack looks very jaded, back to back tests have clearly taken their toll on Harmison in particular, Giles looks very good but hes been bowling on two pitches that are decidly dubious, put him on a harder more dry pitch and he will find it hard to get much turn out of it, instead waiting until the 4th or 5th day for some cracks to open up, hence rendering him useless for the first 3.

Anderson didnt bowl much but thats probably due to the fact the pitch didnt suit him, it was far too slow.

All in all a good performance, but one against a distinctly poor Windies side.

TROD.

I agree with you about Trescothick, he's always been one of the team I'm less keen on, but he can pull out great performances. I am a massive fan of Butcher though, his batting action is so clean, and I would be very disappointed if he is left out when he gets back from injury. We seem to have found a great wicket keeper is Geraint Jones too, when we lost Stewart I was worried out next keeper would be nothing like he was with the bat, but Jones is just as good. Giles is really starting to click too, which is great because its so long since we had a decent spinner. Hoggard and Harmison are a great pair of fast bowlers and Flintoff lends great support. I dont really like Anderson, S Jones or Saggers and would like to see another fast or medium pace bowler come thought. Saggers did not impress me at all. Back up the top of the order, Vaughan is a great captain and a great scorer, Thorpe is just the sort of gritty player we need, Flintoff is just a miracle and we have two great youngsters in Strauss and Key, and if one goes bad the other sure wont. All in all, best team in ages.

I would still put South Africa a tiny bit ahead of us - until we prove ourselves against a better team anyway.
