Effective players worthy of much more praise

What players can you name?

Right now I can think of Silvestre, trusty left-back of Man United.
I am so glad he decided to continue staying at United. He has been very consistent and is a great regular. He assistance in attacking is fantastic and is a typical modern-day attacking left-back.

Absolutely. I always liked the 'unsung heroes' instead of the flashy players.

Gary Neville used to be one of these, before he began to misunderstand the offside rule.

Other examples include Gary Speed, Denis Irwin, etc.. They are just very consistent and gives 100%.

liverpool's hammann is one that need to be mentioned.. in his absence liverpool have suffer so much lately... he usually do all the dirty work in front of hyypia and henchoz before it reach them..

gattuso of milan :D he doesn't have the flair of some of the other players in the team, but his determination and his workrate make him an invaluable part of the milan team. maybe i'm saying this because he's one of my favourite players, but then maybe it's not.

Southampton's Antti Neimi. His superb goalkeeping is one of the main reason's they are doing so well this season.

scholes definately deserves to get a mention as do silvestre, brown and nicky butt (when he's playing).

silvestre and brown make crucial tackles and are true professionals as they play fair and are totally committed to the game.

scholes is deadly in front of goal and never stops trying.

i like these players because they are focused. when u see them lining up in the tunnel b4 a game u can see that they are thinkin about the game and keep quiet. thats just my opinion anyway.

How big is YOUR penis?
Javier Zanetti, how come noone mentioned him ? When people talk about Inter, they always talk about Vieri, Crespo, Recoba, but never on their charismatic captain Zanetti. He`s very hard to beat one on one. I also agree with Hamman, he doesn`t look dangerous but to be fair he got the most effective tackling and interception in EPL today.

Yeah, he definitely is, Milan have a few players in the same mould, Ambrosini is definitely a player who lacks finesse, but his committment and workrate more than make up for it.

Bayer Leverkusen's Lúcio deserves credit for the great campaigns his club has done in recent years.

Also, Philippe Mexès deserves some credit for the solid defense Auxerre has.

Benfica's hard working midfielder Petit is the kind of player that always gives everything for the team, with the same workrate from the first to the last second of play.

As already said, Javier Zanetti is really a very dangerous player, even though he is a RB. I believe he is the best player in the world in his position. Anyone who watched Newcastle vs. Internazionale for the CL in November, knows what I'm talking about.

For the opposite reasons... Miroslav Klose is too much over-rated. Just because he scored 6 goals in the World Cup (4 in a training-game against Saudi Arabia, no offence) he's not (by far) the best striker in Germany. It makes me remember the 1994'World Cup in the USA, where Russian striker Oleg Salenko was the top goalscorer with 6 goals, with 5 against then-weakest team Cameroon, and in the end of the tournament, everyone tipped him for a big-money move to a European Top Club... ended up playing for Córdoba and in the Japan league, with a short stay at Valencia, I think... LOL :crazyboy:

Cheers

Danny Murphy...

I cant believe he doesnt get to play for the English NT :|
would have to agree with that !!

he plays great footy.

another one would be Joe Cole
although West Ham havent done very well, he's emerged as captain, and has grown a lot as a player.

Danny Murphy, IMO, doesn't bring anything extra to the England squad.

With Beckham, Gerrard and Scholes almost the automatic trio, there's only the left wing spot left.

Murphy is a versatile player but no left winger.

Murphy has been picked for England in the past and has actually got goals to his name. He was picked for the World Cup but in the end missed out due to a broken metatarsal.

I couldnt agree more. I would have Murphy in my squad but i wouldnt have him in the startting line up. i would automatically pick becks gerrard and scholes ahead of him and even if scholes or gerrard were injured or unavailable i would pick butt or dyer ahead of murphy. But i still admire Murphy as he never gives up and u need someone like that in ur team.

Joe Cole for the left... definately...

Danny Murphy would have to deal with a sub spot, may be for the second halves. He can surprise anyone with his long-range shots... isn't that right Fergie?! ;) lol

Joe Cole, Dyer or Hargreaves on the left are the leading candidates for me. But i wud also add Graeme Le Saux. Sure he's a bit old now but he has a great left foot and is gritty and can play in that position or left back as he does for Chelsea.
