Does FULL VERSION have defensive AI problem?

OK I know I've mentioned this at least a couple of times, but this will be the last time, I promise.

I want to know if in the FULL VERSION of FIFA 2003 the defenders just watch as central midfielders run past them and score? Or do they actually try to stop them?

In the demo I have scored a goal with Zidane in every game on world class level. I get the ball to him when he's 50 yards from goal and dribble completely unchallenged through the Arsenal defenders and score.

That is why FIFA 2003 sucks.

You know what: if that's the reason why you won't buy fifa 2003 you betta buy a PS2 and PES2 and shut your mouth cuz then you'll have your perfect AI.

I'm happy with EA's new product and i know there are others who have the same opinion as me.

that's not the only reason it 'sucks'.
Take for example the situation in which a lone opposition forward is being marked by just one of your defenders.
A low searching pass is dropped to the front of this player, what does the marker do? Why he stops pressing and heads off to the opposite end of the wing.

why?

Because FIFA 2003 is all about graphics, and not much else.
This is just one example. There are many many more.

I like the new passing, the generally fluid movement, and the fact they've actually bothered to take note of fans complaints and changed more than the starting rosters.

But it's still FIFA, and it still 'sucks'.
There are so many unresolved bugs and gameplay issues it's laughable. I'm just glad I have Direct-Connect.

PES has it's share of defensive AI problems (they constantly let the opposition down the wing freely... so you have to manually edit the formation in order to prevent this) Fact is - PES has the option to fine tune, FIFA doesn't. While they've brought back the team management feature, and it's a welcome return, they've removed control from you, the user and you have to stick with pre-defined formations and attack attitudes. You can't tweak, and honestly - there'd be no reason to anyway.

PES also doesn't look all that nice anymore, something FIFA has achieved admirably ;)
(FIFA 99 was the best looking in the series, from then on the graphics got more blocky and unrealistic if I remember rightly. 2003 is a LOT better )

Tackling is a little weird, theres no need for pinpoint accuracy on sliding tackles, the bounding box for which you'll succeed seems take up half the pitch ;) - while the conservative tackle almost never fails on you, or your opponents. Which is rightly annoying when you have the ball, and all the defender has to do is get close enough to press D once and wait till he catches up and relieves you of your possession ;)

Ball physics are as strange as ever - it sometimes springs into certain locations and everyone except the player it was intended for is unable to get it.
You'll all remember that one from previous FIFAs, and I'm sure you'll see it and a whole host of new friends a lot more.

Player control is also as restrictive and annoying as ever.

---

Sorry to ramble on... but I felt the need.

Your defense constantly has problems due to the fact they are all inept characters that serve no purpose other than to look good :P

FIFA 2003 has been changed, and tweaked slightly - but it's too little too late - and don't let the 13 to 14 year olds on this forum tell you otherwise.
(if your looking for a simple, good looking arcade football game and don't mind being ripped off on the price - then 2003 may be just up your street)

I agree with this statement, but you still need to exclude loads of things which mean you have a lot less control than the last game. I do not play Pro Evo or what have you. I only play Fifa soccer games and this is only till something closer to the real thing comes along. Fifa just frustrates me every year and I hope on hope for the next one and its still always a pile of frustration about how unlike football a lot of the moments are. There are people who think this is close to perfection I can see. But with their statements overlooking the glaring faults and the way they pump this up, I wonder if they dont work for EA marketing.
Dont tell me to go away and shut up or other people who can see past the gloss. This is our opinion, entitled to it as you are to the same pile of ****e thats swallowed every 6-8 months

Of course you're entitled to your opinions but that doesn't make them valid.

I'm waiting for the day where all sports games are played in "virtual reality" - where you hop into a suit and some glasses and they stick you in a room to "simulate" your selected game. Out of the walls and floors would come objects to simulate being tackled and professionally fouled and occasionally you'd have the gaming pleasure of having your gonads stomped by some Robo-Roy Keane for some extra realism.

But until that day comes, we'll have to settle into the fact of gaming evolution where the programmers add new features that they have finally figured out how to code without messing everything else up.

Some of you whiney blokes expect others to be able to do everything your heart wishes when you barely have the skills to just install the game.

Games, especially sports games, are made to attract the broadest possible audience - the programmers have to find the formula that will attract the most buyers so they will be able to secure the funding to attempt to produce the next version of their game which they hope will once again take us a little closer to the real thing.

As you are entitled to your opinion, so am I. My opinion is that you're both a couple of wankers who wouldn't be happy even if EA Sports sponsored a training session for you with your favorite club.

What a twit.

Jelikins, in how tight of a bind would you twist your panties if I had called you a wanker directly?

And on a philosophical note, aren't you hiding behind your PC? Hypocrisy is a very bad personality trait.

Just so you know, I'm flipping you the bird right now.

Cheers.

Wow! How informative!

Well jellikins, your assumption that us "yanks" know nothing about football is exactly the reason why you're a complete tossface.

Who are you to deride a whole nation's soccer knowledge just because somebody happens to disagree with you.

There's only one prize "wanker" on this forum and that's you.

Uh...what about his question? Anyone here play the game and find the defensive AI problem still in?

I hesitate to join this debate because of all the childish bad lanquage but like you I am frustrated by FIFA every year and even if you bought a PS1 and a copy of ISS2 I reckon you would discover how good a football game can be.

please no abuse this, is just some advice from someone who gives the latest FIFA game a try every year.:)

NO there is not a defensive AI problem in the full version of FIFA 2003!!

If you run straight at the defenders, they will close you down and steal the ball from you.

Occasionally they will screw up and you will get through on goal, but that happens in real life fairly often, so it doesn't bother me.

Now someone please LOCK this topic before these people scratch each others eyes out!! ;)

yeah. i too find the problem in the demo is solved in the full version! :)

for the others who thinks fifa crap, sucks and everything, yeah, u have a point but i would like to remind u guys just one thing, The WE/PES series has been build for football simulation for years and they just improve from what is already a good football simulation game. Whereas this newly launced fifa2003 was build from scratch (this is the only fifa that emphasize more on football sim) and it took EA only 4.5 months (they started working on it after the creation of WC2002) I must tell you that I dont expect much from that limited time frame. And when i got this game, i'm totally impressed with what they've done in such a little time. I know if they can keep the momentum going, we can get one of the best football simulation if not the best in a year time. I think they wont want to screw-up again given the success of WE/PES series lately. ;)

p/s-sorry for my english

rofl, I find that amusing. Built from scratch? And still, it has all the same problems and issues as the original games. Plays the same, and frankly - looks the same only a lot better...
Built from scratch obviously means sod all when you look at the finished product - which is basically FIFA 2002.

And don't forget - FIFA has been around a lot longer than ISS/PES, and also had many more releases than the latter.

FIFA 2002 was also supposedly more simulation than arcade, not just 2003. Again it's probably marketing hype because of the PES series.

Why should we care or allow the timeframe to affect our opinons on the game?
Because they've rushed a game out in order to bring in some money doesn't exactly make my heart bleed.

lol.

PES2 is rushed, shoddy and unprofessional. But it still outshines 2003....

Oh and just for the record, I am a wanker, and I do enjoy a game of 2003 now and then.
