Does anyone else think the match engine is crap?

maybe they should have a sort of difficulty thing but name it quick play and normal play?

Hell no. What SI need to do is give a better explanation for tactical sliders. Sliders are too ambiguous and not a lot of people know what they really do. Too much hit-and-miss is needed to find a good tactic.

Might be a decent option for FIFA manager type players , but I doubt more than 1/100 current FM players will agree with that.

Yeah, which is why I really disagreed with your previous comment about it being too hard Áļéאָ :)

I agree loads with Rocky...They really need to explain what everything in the tactics does, AND make sure it actually does what it is meant to effectively!!

I think what people mean by the game being hard(er) is that you now need to spend lots of time compiling a tactic that actually pays off and than after a few games you need to tweak on it again to avoid the AI adapting. Maybe it's more realistic that way, but some people, who don't have that much time, just want a quick play. That was my main concern with FM 2007, it just needed to much time. FM 2008 is better playable concerning this though I still can't say I've really played that one much either.

I agree they need more time, and this can put people off...But I guess if you don't want to spend time with the game, then choose a different game (OR go to the SI website and download some tactics that suit! :p)...

So I disagree that this is a bad thing..Every year, the public ask for more to be added. More detail, more this, more that. If these things are added, they need to have an effect otherwise they're pointless...And they add complexity to the game, meaning time...

not necessarily every thing should be added. if SI listened to all opinions the game would never get done. there are obvious issues with the match engine, and they've lingered since it came out. for anyone who's followed the FM franchise (or CM for whoever the hell still calls it that) they know this. SI has to fix it, because the various patches do not fix this. offsides bug is still around, corner bug, as well as shooting bug (3 wide open one on one chances vs. the keeper and my striker doesn't score)

by the way, the whole changing the tactics stuff - take a look at real life and ask how many times a real manager changes his tactic. there are defensive ones and offensive ones, maybe depending on weather/opponent, but having to change your tactic every couple of days seems ridicilous. at this point, how the hell are lower leauge teams supposed to get new players? get a AM(R) that you've been chasing for 2 years, he finally joins, and then ****, they've figured me out... need a new tactic that doesn't maybe employ a right attacking mid...

there HAS to be a balance between simplicity and complexity. if you have a ******* hour a day to dick around with the tactics/formation/setting up your team before EACH game, you don't need to be playing this game, you need to apply for a real management position. i try to have my hand in everything, i regularly check out my B team, my under 19s, and have found many good players. i have to do this, since many players wont join my team, even if i have the transfer funds. i'm fine with that, it comes with the team. but things like finding a new tactic 10 times during a season would drive me insane.

I agree. I've noticed every time SI add a new feature it screws up the game even more. SI should concentrate on improving the current features of the game instead of implementing new ones. But let's be realistic, no one would buy the game if they heard that no new features would be included. Only the hardcore FM fans would buy the game.

After updating to the 8.0.2 patch I've rarely noticed any problems with offsides, the corner bug is easily avoided, and I don't have with problems with one-on-ones. I will say though, the match engine in the latest patch isn't anywhere near an acceptable level.

Well I think all managers in real life make slight adjustments before facing every team. For example a manager might say to a team before a game to play deep because the other team has fast attackers. Then the next game he might tell his team to play further up the pitch because the other team is slow in attack. I don't see the problem in that, I do minor tweaking of sliders before every game. Takes me about 30 seconds before a match, no big deal.

I don't think the AI has figured anything out yet, the player probably just hasn't had enough time to settle in with the squad.

Agree about the complexity, they need to find a good balance in between simple and realistic. The direction SI are headed, it will soon be impossible for people like me who have friends, go to school, and have a job to find some time to enjoy this game. For me what takes too long is finding the right tactic that works, tweaking before games is no problem for me as I've already stated. I hate wasting away a pre-season playing matches on full 90 minute highlights with the tactics screen up. As for your woes in the transfer market, don't worry, you're not alone. I think most people, including myself, would agree that the transfer market in this game is crap.

i change my tactic depending on how the other teams tactic is.. and then i save them... after the first season theres the odd change or i just click the tactic for that style of play

sorry to quote a quote, but games for everyone are different. if i had a little bit of time, and i hope I will, i'll troll the forum and find you exact opposites of all those statements. i'm also using the latest patch, and my strikers miss constantly. the offsides bug has not been fixed, but in a weird way, it has been equalized. it used to be just myself getting goals disallowed, now the AI is suffering the same fate. justice i guess. additionally, the new patch has apparently taken my defender's common sense. even though they are set as "ultra defensive" with NO forward running, NO running with ball and I have my team defensive line as DEEP as it can go, my defenders are constantly running and dribbling with the ball if they have a little bit of open space. it drives me ******* insane. i've given up so many goals just for the simple reason my defenders get the ball stripped away from them. i would understand if it happens once, twice or something like that. but CONSTANTLY. This has been a problem ever since i started playing with the original game.

Like I said, it's different for everybody. still like the game, but it is frustrating.
