Defense doesn't push up

overall i think fifa05 is great, there are only 2 things that bug me so far.

one is that as soon as i lose the ball, my defenders slide all the way back to the top of my 18. what is up with that?? Even with offsides trap on, they still push back immediately and leave a huge gap between midfield and D. anyway to get them to not drop???

also, i know this is very minor, but i hate how the computer's goal kicks go to the same place every time...that really bugs me.

but mainly i want to know how to fix this defense problem

hi, I don't have the game yet but i imagine there is a defence stance option? like pressing and contain, try putting it on pressing and see if it works.... if not then EA suxorz

In the demo, both Arsenal and AC Milan did it no matter who you were playing with, so it was an all round problem not just a player problem. But in the game, some AI teams don't do it as much, but there is still a gap. So you must be able to get round it. Have you tried putting the defensive stance on 'Pressing', and the overall team mentality on 'Attacking'? That might help.

But there is a general problem with the formations being very rigid. If you pick the ball up in midfield and run with it, you don't often get other midfielders coming with you, only the strikers, and the midfield sit back and stay put. So as you ove down the pitch, you get bigger and bigger gaps. Likewise, the strikers don't want to come more than a few yards into your half when you're defending, again leaving a big gap between midfield and the strikers.

Undoubtedly part of the problem is that the pitch is about 1.5 times the length it should be!

yeah, i did notice there are gaps all over the place.
the problem still exists with the team mentality as attacking, defense set to pressing and offsides trap on. this is the only thing bothering me about this game..

Your right Zipp. i posted this in the thread 'Defence In Demo' last month after I played the demo....


''Defending however is s.hite. Defenders have the turning circle of Noahs ark loaded with every living being ever to have existed, and it takes too long from when you have switched to them to get a response, and sometimes they still have a mind of their own even when you have the control icon on them. Full backs, why do they bother putting them in if they wont let them do their job. And the defending postitions, its always from the edge of the box, way too deep. Why cant the developers see that the defensive side is just as important.
