Defending from free kick

Hi,

so many times when im defending from a free kick close to my goal ive noticed that if i push the buttons in a random way one of my players from the wall comes running towards the ball before even the kicker touches it, thus completely blocking the shot. I know that must be a bug or something because in the real life thats illegal, however it comes very handy because that way the other team has no chance to score. However im not sure about exactly how to do it so i would like to know exactly what to press in order to achieve it. Could anybody please tell me?

Thank you.

Its really difficult to score a free kick in fifa 10. I miss most of the times no mater how well i shoot, it has to be a perfect shot in order to score. I really hate it. On the other hand, the CPU scores most of the times and there is nothing you can do because if they want to score, they just do. However, with this little trick you can reduce their chances because your player gets very close to the kicker so he can block the shot more easily. The CPU can do this too, specially if they are using a strong team and in those cases you wont score because your shot gets blocked as soon as you release the ball. I think it has to do something with pressing down in the pad and tapping pass very quickly but im not sure. I would like a practice mode where you can actually practice the defending of free kicks.

I found some tutorials on YouTube but they doesn't work well as they are for the console version. Then, most of these tutorials suppose the use of the joypad while I'm used to play using the keyboard. If someone would know a free kick tutorial for FIFA10 using the keyboard as controller, it would be appreciated.

You can send a player on the wall running toward the ball pressing the shoot button, so he will surely blocks the ball.

This is very good way for defending against FK, most of my rivals complains about that, saying that it's a bug on the game, but it's alright to me, 'cause i'm a technical player, i play with control of the ball, attacking, and i don't slide, i don't make fouls, and irritates me when referee calls fouls near the area when surely it's not, i'm marking right, or jumping to clear the ball, there's no foul and still, the referee calls it, so when referee goes wrong, i got that play for defending against that mistake.

So, resuming, you can run with pressing shoot button for activate the player, and running towards the ball.
Also, you can set your GK to manually on that play to move him on the goal line to the side you think the shooter will score, but it's better for me run to the ball.

About scoring, you can shoot above the ball, giving it curl or downspin (with right analog controller), call a 2nd player and make a pass and shoot (pace button+pass and then shoot) but always if the player of the wall not runs against you, must be creative if you want to defeat that strategy ;)

Hey Mate
Well this is actually legal just to let you know you are allowed to charge the ball as the player starts his run up. This is not a bug but yet a useful tool to prevent or put off the striker from scoring. Sorry unable to help with the second question as I am on ps3. Although it decreases the chance of them scoring it definately doesnt stop them in my game on Legendary they seem to score alot of free kicks. Just a tip but if you like to be incontrol of if they score or not after the wall change to keeper and there will be controls on pc i think on ps3 im sure which enables you to dive and knock the ball away from the goal if well worked can be better protection than a wall.

Hope that helps you all

Changing to GK it's not the best choice, 'cause if u play againts a player who scores a lot from FK (like myself ;)), this player can lock the camera on one side, so you can go with the GK to cover that side, and the he shoots to the other side, easily scoring, tricking you locking the camera, so, running towards the ball it's for me the best choice, at least vs top players.

I'm using a Logitech dual analog joystick, and i lock the camera using the analog button, don't remember if it's left or right analog stick, tonight when i can play i'll edit the right option.

For locking the camera in the free kick, press the button on the left analog stick (logitech joystick)

Gracias

press LB o switch to a player that is not on the wall and then drag him back to the goal directly behind the wall. No free kick goal then :)
