Is it just me or does the AI bring your defence so far forward that the cpu can 90% of the time thread a through ball through and the player is clear through to be one-on-one? This seems to be the main way the cpu scores it's goals and I don't think its just me either ... anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah I really do agree , I can't agree more.
It's sucky , i have the ball i play it forward the CPU gets the ball pases to it's strikers and my defenders are behind their strikers and the CPU allways manage to get alone vs the goalie its annoying!

yea that happens all the time, the only defender that isnt way up is the winger on the opposite side of the play, he is hanging back just enough to keep that poaching striker onsides.

you're not defending properly. in real football if you don't close the angles a ball through the channel to the striker will always result in a one on one.
Fifa is a great game, you have to concentrate, i promise, if you move you're current player(the one highlited at soon as u lose the ball)into correct position, you will "block" the channel and the cpu will be forced to pass out wide. the less alternatives u give them to pass through the middle and the wider u force them the better. most time when they shot from the wide position the will miss or the keeper will take it comfortably(just like real football). this fifa game is programed so that the game plays how you make it play. if u allow a ball to easily pierce through you're back line u deserve to lost a goal. watch the game, read the game correctly.
move a midfielder back if you lose it in midfield(try to get in front of the attacker blocking possible routes for a pass)Heck i sometimes tack all the way back with Van Nistlerooy.
Packing the defence is sometimes whats required. hope this helps you.

Initially it was a nightmare to defend. The CPU would just walk through the defense for countless 1-v-1's with the 'keeper.

But after a few days, I've got much better. My midfield does a lot of defending right from the halfway line. Also as soon as the CPU looks like it is going through I try to change to the defender closest to the ball and he wins it about 70% of the time. I only use the conservative tackle.

Defending is not easy, so you need to find the right way of playing. It took me a few days to get used to it.

Well that was nice. I'm winning 3-2 ... 90th minute and the CPU gets the ball on the edge of their area and threads a through ball RIGHT THROUGH to their attacker on the edge of my penalty area who obviously scored. How convenient :f***:

Where are you from? I am guessing a country which doesn't have any Football teams right?

Sorry but your understanding of the game doesn't exists and I am flattering you with that statement!!

FIFAs defence is NOTHING like real football. Your defensive back line doesnt charge up the pitch leaving two strikers in behind them in real football, and one useless guy sitting down in the corner on the wing to keep them onside. I feel sorry for you if you think THAT is realistic..your team must REALLY suck.

When a man comes in from midfield you defenders DONT just stand watching while he walks through and scores....

When theres 3 strikers in the middle and three defenders. Your two wide defender do NOT stand out on the wings doing NOTHING, and leave a single defender 1 on 3 in the middle.... again where you get these weird ideas from is beyond me...

I get tired of all you people talking as if anyone who sees FIFA 2003 for the trash it is is some kind of newcomer. I have forgotton more about football than you will ever know, and I have played FIFA since the very first ever Fifa game came out.....

This Fifga "soccer" 2003, is by far the most rediculously inept piece of software I have ever seen.

EA seem to have invented a whole new game of football for themselves, because its NOTHING like realistic......

Mathewsss and the guys are right - it's difficult for the first week. You now know that the cpu is going to exploit that maneuver if it is available, so take it away from him. The pace of the game is such that sometimes you have to cycle your defender to the back row even though the cpu is just approaching midfield.

Keeping your offense churning is the best defense - don't make dumb passes and control the flow.

When you do have to back up and play defense, make sure you're in position before trying to dispossess the defender - you don't have the magical ability to defy momentum any longer and the cpu will blow by you if you lunge the wrong way.

What i've done which sorta seems to work in world class mode is everytime you lose possesion of the ball drag a midfielder or forward into your defence or behind your defenders (drag him into the box). NEVER EVER PRESS THE CHANGE PLAYER BUTTON, and just control that midfielder or forward while your defending. The players on your team you arent controlling will either win the ball, or the opposition can only win corners.

The bad thing is you must remember to do it everytime you lose possession. Which wouldn't always be the number one thing in your mind to always do.

I think that a formation like 6-3-1, wasn't included because it was the only formation which defence could withstand the computer in world class.

Does anyone know if you can play 5 players at the back in FIFA 2003?
