Most researches done by universities actually contribute alot to society, specially in the medical and enfineering fields.

In hindsight, this tragedy could have been avoided if the university officials could have been better prepared. Unfortunately, who actually expects for such a thing to happen??.

1) When you're in college you get a lot of emails from professors and places like the career services office. Everyone checks their email at least once a day, and most check 2 or more times.

2) Universities are wasting money on research projects? Are you kidding me?! That's one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard in my life. What exactly do you think Universities do? Things like this don't happen often, in fact I don't know if it's happened on a college campus since the 60's. You want these communities which are supposed to encourage free thought and intellectual advancement to lock down students and take away money from research to do it?

You do understand that EVERY academic finding comes from university research, right? But maybe putting a few more rent-a-cop campus police on campus is more important than investing in medical research.
