1st up, sorry if there is another thread like this (kindly direct me to it if there is)

Ok I love this game, I fell in love with it on handheld so I bought it for PC. Problem is I cant !@#$ing win! it doesnt matter what club I chose or what I do I mostly have one decent season then completely turn to crap the next. So im asking for your help...

I'm thinking im doing something wrong (or not doing something) so im going to let you know what I do and please feel free to point out where i'm going wrong.

Ok I join a team (usually a lower/mid table club eg fulham/coventry) and then evaluate the team, I throw the deadwood on the TL and I look around for some good talent to fill in the needs of the club. I usually bring 2-5 guys in depending on who's around and what we need and then head into the friendlies.

I have very little to do with custom training and I usually stick with the 442. From there I go ok mostly and play the season, 80% of the players i bring in tend to go pretty well and untill we start losing the team has good morale.

Im just not sure what I need to do or what im missing in order to last more than 3 seasons in this game. I love it but im about to throw my notebook through the window if I dont find out what im missing or doing wrong.

So if anyone has any advice PLEASE let me know, I love the game but I think I just need some good basic advice from people who have tasted success consistantly.

Thanks guys...

There's your problem. Unfortunately, this game DOES require your input. The AI adjusts to your tactics so just running the 442 will not work. Depending on your personnel, you might need a different tactic. As a rule of thumb, I always tweaked my tactic after each season. However, this also depends on who you play with. Usually I play with a lower league club and I have domestic success.. but not much in Europe.

Training... it is highly recommended that you get involved in your player's trainings. Midfielders, Forwards, Defenders should all have a unique schedule. If your CB is training on shooting as much as your striker is, you have a problem. Depending on how much time you have on your hands, will dictate how involved you will be. I know people who develop training programs for specific positions, IE. CB, M, RB, LB, F, AM... so on. I stuck with just four, (Defense, Midfield, Attacking Midfield, Forwards) and of course, goalies. Worked pretty well. If you don't have time to develop your own, there are many training schedules online that you can find.

One thing I miss about the old CM games were that you could be as involved as you wanted to be and still have success. I really wish FM would add a difficulty setting. The easiest way to get new fans of the game is to allow people to focus on what they find fun. I used to go download all the hot tactics because I liked focusing much more on other aspects of the game. That doesn't really work anymore, or at least not to the same extent.

Agreed. I still love 01/02 the most. I mean, FM has gotten progessively better, the media is now involved, and the game has much more to offer, which makes it less boring, and you want to keep playing to get more involved and to see the new stuff. But I find myself basically nitpicking at every little detail to win a match. Since I usually play with lower league teams in smaller countries, European success is usually a pipe dream. Either add a difficulty setting, or even the playing field somehow. I think the furthest I got in European competition was the quarters of the CL, and that's because I custom set up every single position, all my training, and I actually scouted the opposition's teams/players. I played the game 3-5 hours a day and it took me 6 months to finish a season. I love the game but wish they would figure something out. Maybe make it like the new Madden, where it adjusts to your skill level... except without John Madden please.
