Matt....you need some therapy for your problem mate, really. Your envy of the guy is just so obvious :kader:

right ... what has he done really this tournament? That's the way he plays, always trying to draw the free kick on the edge of the box by falling over like a sissy. He cost us 3-4 goals at the last Euro.

He is a gamble, yes he can win us a game from a free kick but more often than not, like today it's not worth it. We should get a proper winger out there like Lennon.

Pede, i base my opinion purely on football. I have nothing at all against Beckham, he comes across as a gentleman and his private life is not the business of the state but i feel England have better options which would bring more to this team.

He has been a good servant to the team for 8 years or more and one of the best England players to pull on the shirt during that time but it is time for a change.

Slate me all you like but i will illiterate my view is not influenced at all by the media boo boys, only what i see on the football field.

Fair enough TA, its all about opinions after all mate. Personally I don't think he is finished.

Sure I can see how great it would be to have a "real" winger on the right, and I think that Lennon is probably the guy to fill that role. Joe on the left and Aaron on the right looks great to me too, and with Ash and Nev as wing backs it looks good. I dont dispute that at all. In fact sometimes I feel that Becks needs more room to operate than the little space he has, so tight against the line.

I still believe that Beckham still has a role to play in the team. Maybe not on the right wing then, maybe move him inside, but by losing Beckham altogether, we then lose probably the greatest distributor of the ball in the World.

The time will come for Becks to go but I believe he will still be playing in the team in Euro 2008. That will be his swansong I think and until then I would not want to see him go.

TBH, I worry more about the striker situation than any other position on the field. Now that is something to be concerned about.

As much as I'd hate to say it Lampard is to blame, atleast more than Beckham. It is the horrible midfield tandem of Gerrard and Lampard that ultimately did Sven in. He was too scared to bench them when they didn't perform. Joe Cole should have been a central attacking midfielder. I have a feeling that McClaren won't really change much the lineup, if there was a new head coach like Scolari he would have ringed in many changes to the lineup.

yea, joe cole's natural position would be as a central attacking midfielder, but he's done an admirable job on the left midfield. he's really run away with that starting spot, which has been england's achilles heal for so long. i think he was england's best midfielder during the world cup...that says a lot about him.

but for beckham, i hope he plays on til euro 2008. i still think he has much to offer and isn't finished just yet. it was disappointing to see his last world cup reduced to tears on the bench, but i think he's sort of vindicated himself. he wasn't brilliant, but played decently. much better than 2002.

Beckham should be tried out at a Pirlo-like role for England, he obviously lacks speed now and there's no one else in the world that can be as precise as him when it comes to placing the ball. He just choses a spot and it lands there.
that would leave a place for lennon in the right wing.
also his setpieces are still the best there are, so I believe he can be extremely useful to any team anywhere.

Bent, defoe, walcott(maybe?), rooney, crouch!!

I think bent would be fantastic for england if given the chance, and god forbid if we play 4-5-1 with rooney injured or something, he can do it, hes been playing that all year.

I would much rather Lampard gets dropped than Beckham and last night's game against Portugal is a great example why.

Once Beckahm came off, did you see England threaten with any free kicks or corners?

Once Rooney came off and Lampard got the centre of midfield all to himself, did you see him threaten?

I remember the efforts of Gerrard, Lennon, Hargreaves and Crouch ... and I remember Lampard missing the best chance England had with noone around him in front of goal.. and his penalty.

Lampard is a great player for Chelsea and apparently the second best player inthe world, but for England, he is rubbish.

I agree Lennon should get a place, but not by dropping Beckham. Drop Lampard instead.

eh, beckham didnt do that badly at the world cup... if anyone should be dropped its lampard he was mince. but i'de be happy for them to keep things the same so they can continue to **** up (H)

i see beckham has stood down as england captain, was a bit stupid havin him as captain when you have the likes of gerrard and terry anyway
