Crazy Ajax-AZ match

I just found out about this now, surprised no one posted it yet.

It happened a few days ago on the 21st of December in a Dutch cup match between Ajax and AZ. Apparently the AZ keeper was attacked by a supporter and defended himself by fighting and kicking the assailant back. The ref gives the keeper a red card and the AZ manager is appalled and calls his team to the dugout to abandon the match in protest.

I read the red card was rescinded a couple of days afterwards.



Does anyone know if the match stands as a AZ loss?

KNVB hasn't decided yet if they will give it to Ajax, continue from the 37th of minute or start over. And yeah, the card was cancelled, although, by the book, it was a red card. Since Verbeek called the players off, saying it was because he didn't feel it'd be safe, I guess he already accepted the chance of the losing the match.

Wouldn't call the retard a fan nor a hooligan, the latter usuallt don't attack from behind like a ****. Pretty fun how Esteban lost it, lol.

I think the manager was spot on and I applaud him for doing what he did. That was ridiculous.

You resume the match in an empty stadium and call it a day.

the ref was dumb for sending off a keeper, but the coach just had a hissy fit. The keeper owned that fan and apparently its not safe anymore? He knew the match was lost and wanted an excuse to save face.

I think the keeper has every right to defend him self. The ref probably had to follow the rule book where it says somewhere that this requires a red card. And the manager's protest makes sense.

They could probably disqualify Ajax too. Anyway, refs are mindless douchebags, and this just proves it again. So the keeper is just supposed to allow himself to get assaulted? Have they heard of Monica Seles? Assholes.

Any human being would have fought back and defended themselves when confronted by that crazy fan, the keeper may have lost it but its understandable.

Ajax has given the dumbass a 30-year ban from the Arena. Still nothing on when-how the match will be decided.

I was there in the stadium. It was quite strange. Didn't quite believe what all happened in those few hectic minutes.

The KNVB can also disqualify both teams as a result of the incident. AZ for taking it's team of the pitch and not resuming the match and Ajax for not being able to guarantee the safety of the players on the pitch. The retard attacking the goalie already had a stadium ban, by the way. As well as a pretty long record of crime incidents related to football matches, like vandalism. Which calls in general for a much stricter policy on that regard, in my opinion.

If he already had a ban and if it's true that he ran to the pitch from the disabled fans' area - it really makes you think if the security at the Arena is worse than ****e or that the guy was a genius.

I'd think a genius would know not to attack a professional athlete in a stadium filled with security and TV cameras. Or if he still wants to, he'd know to at least inflict damage and not fall to the ground.
