Anyone seen this show, I have to admit it's one of the best TV shows ever made, hands down, and yes even better than the Simpsons. Has anyone here seen the show or the movie?

It was aired in Japan in 98, in the US and Canada i think it aired on Cartoon Network, now i dunno, but *whispers quietly* since i recommend it to anyone, its best to log onto kazaa and just download it all, its 26 episodes long. I don't know if u can find the episodes on DVD anywhere, also watch the movie before the show.

yes my friend lent me his dvd box set and i just recently watched all 26 episodes. high quality anime with great music and great characters and fantastic style. i would describe it as a sort of futuristic zen cowboy western.

The Simpsons is arguably the greatest cartoon comedy of all time. Something that is only 26 episodes + a movie and is shown on cartoon network:| simply cannot be compared.

O yes it can, especially since greed haunts most of the US tv shows, the simpsons, just like X-Files, and Buffy just dragged on for a very long time and it sort of ruined the effect and passion of the show. Simpsons ran out of idead back in 97 and since then everything has been just a repeat of past glory. The simpsons is famous because it has ran for so long and its become just "something to do" on a sunday 8pm EST. The same goes for the X-Files, and Buffy, non of these shows ended on high notes, but died slow horrible deaths (low ratings). If a show could close up all its loose ends and end humbly on a high note, it would be easily remember as a great, rather than, "yeah that show was good but got **** after a while". Its what makes Cowboy Bebop one of the greatest shows, along with a very good "thriller" type backstory.

If the simpsons had ended like it was supposed to by now, the makers could easily have just done work on other shows such as Futurama, and gathered more ratings.

Yeah, the Sipsons isn't as good as it was. But it was a major success everywhere, unlike Cowboy Bebop which I hadn't even heard of until this thread and I would imagine is popular in the Anime world but nowhere else.

You are right, but remember, not all good things sell, and look at who the distributor of the simpsons is, Fox can sell anything, Fox have sold Dark Angel, which was a piece of crap. Bebop was made by Bandai, and aired on WOWWO in Japan for the 1st season. Fox cannot be compared to Bandai, Fox is worldwide, so distribution is bigger. Hence ratings. Maybe if Bebop were dubbed and played on Fox things would be different.

The only decent Western (as in Wild West) Comedy is Blazing Saddles.

I dunno, the fact is that the market for the Simpsons is much bigger than any anime show. I know there are a lot of anime fans out there but they are outnumbered by fans of more traditional shows.

i cannot argue with u there, simpsons is the most watched tv show in the world, but is it the best? (all a matter of opinion really)

Cowboy Bebop is ok, not nearly as good a series as Evangelion or Bubblegum Crisis though..

(and why is it being compared to the Simpsons? )

Neon Genesis is too kiddish tho...

what!?!

No way, I don't beleive you've ever watched the series! Nobody who's seen it would ever say there is anything even remotely kiddish about Neon Genesis Evangelion! It challenges every aspect of the human condition and there has never been a series with more developed characters. Not to mention the sexual inuendos, even homo sexual, and ofcourse some of the very grotesque bloody fight scenes, especially in the last few episodes..

"Neon Genesis Evangelion consists of a variety of elements, seamlessly working together to bring us a story like no other anime series before it. It displays powerful portrayal of the human element, developing its characters to the point of painful recognition by the watchers. It presents to us high tech combat sequences with the physical savagery and impact of a bar-room brawl which may well decide the fate of mankind. It draws on material from popular mythology, philosophy and religion which lead us to the questions: What is the nature of evolution? What is humanity's relationship to what we call the divine? Does "God" exist? And what would it mean for the human race if we could finally answer "yes" or "no"?"
