It's a pity that worldclass footballers such as Cordoba and Materazzi don't get their due respect and aren't appreciated enough by fans of soccer and are infact ridiculed and derided.

Speed is the only thing Cordoba has going for him.

His marking abilities are poor. His anticipation is poor. He has little vision.

If speed and jumping abilities are the only things that mattered then Allen freakin Iverson could be a world class CB. But hes not one and neither is Cordoba.

We must be talking about two completely different people here. To wholly pigeonhole him and criticize him as simply being a pacey person turned footballer is just wrong and dishonest. I mean, I'd agree that his pace is his most exposed attribute to casual viewers of him, but if you've watched him enough, you'd realize that he's way more than just a pacey defender with a good jumping ability. The guy is a field general, a true, passionate leader who, along with his physical prowess, is also technically sound and also very versatile. He can play on both of the wings if needed and also play right and left CD positions (Mostly due to his footballing intelligence and positioning ability) solidly. His specialty is in man-marking, making well timed slide-in tackles both to scurry the ball away and to block incoming shots and also making well-timed heading challenges. He, as a short footballer with a good vertical, couldn't survive in any league (let alone the Serie A where a lot of the managers specialize in discerning and targeting other teams' weaknesses) by having poor marksmanship and anticipation/readiness. He hardly poorly times his headings, I mean, granted when that occurs, it usually leads to goal scoring chances for the opposition, but 9 times out of 10, he wins or evens out his opponent. You couldn't possibly say the same about Thuram, who's got the same athleticism as Cordoba, but is also gifted with a larger body frame, yet he can't defend (aerially speaking) half as good as King Cordoba.

His managing of players (tantamount to having an actual coach on the field) is underrated. He's always organizing the defence. His loyalty, passion and never-say-die attitude is only match by J. Zanetti. He carries our team and partners up with just about anyone well and improves their ability in the process....what a workhorse, man.

Those intangibles listed above, along with his skill and intelligence, makes King "Cobra" Cordoba the shamefully under-appreciated worldclass footballer he is.

Ok if Cordoba and Matrix are so f*ckin good why do everyone keep scoring freely against Inter ? Why have Inter conceded 24 as opposed to Juve's 7 and Milans 9 ?

Nevermind.

Inter are the greatest. Theres nothing wrong with drawing ever game. Theres nothing wrong with conceding 2 goals every game. King Cordoba, King Recoba and King Adriano will win the league by themselves. Inter will be Champions even if they finish 8th. Thats how great Inter are.

Hey, man. I'm only defending King Cordoba's worth to Inter and his abilities as a footballer, I don't see what in my post would render such a sneering and over the top sarcastic post from you. You and some others feel he's utter **** and I only countered that with my views of him. Bringing in the fantastic season your club and Milan are having interms of defence and goal difference and putting it up against the ill-fated and unfortunate one we're having and also using it to discredit King Cordoba or Materazzi is unnecessary (a cheap kick to the head when we're already down and almost out of it of sorts) and also unfair. Materazzi (who hasn't really had a good season so far) and Cordoba are only two slices from the pie. Good defence is an entire team effort (including the coach)

If you were to turn the hand back in time roughly 12months ago, it would be your club's defence that would be up for questioning and would be laughed at. Us, and Roma were above you in goal difference. Turn the hand back in time again, this time two years ago......you were in 5th, with already five losses and were below us and three others interms of goal difference, turn the time back 3yrs back from today and you had yourselves 7 defeats and were below us and two others interms of goal difference....you see? If I were to assume just from the stats of those past seasons and came to the conclusion that....say.......Zambrotta,Thuram or any other player from your squad for that matter was utter ****, it would simply be defective reasoning and logic.

Juventus are reJUVEnated under the great Al Franken, have upgraded the defence with Canna and are having one of those invincible type of seasons, and us on the other hand? We've Perugia-ed the season away for the most part with a lot of self and external inflictions under a new coach, a good offensive minded coach, but a coach who's not sound when it comes to defensive schemes and tactics.

Sorry to say Yossarian but i gotta agree with Mikey and IceBlu on this one (dammit cant believe i said that :crazyboy: ).

Yes codoba is a "good" defender but he is not world class. so many times i have seen him out of position and just making stupid mistakes in defence, same goes for Matrix (personally dont class him very highly).

Cordoba is good at running back at defenders and getting to that pass but isnt rock solid at the back (as is shown by the goals against on the standings)

To call him king cordoba really is not justified in my books.....

yeah i do believe Cordoba should play the sides, but he isn't effective at that :( ... if he was he would have certainly been one of best wing defenders

I'm with Yossarian on this one, I think Cordoba is underrated.

Mancini's defensive system isn't right for him, or Seria A for that matter (works in The Champions League though, doesn't it), plus playing with a big idiot like Materazzi doesn't help, all contributing to Inter having a bad defensive season, making "King" Cordoba look bad.

To say "look at how many goals Inter have conceded" is surely simplifying football itself, like Yossarian said if you did that then a few seasons ago, you could have come to the conclusion that when Juve were having a bad season that Zambrotta, for example, was pants.

If you need proof of Cordoba's quality, then look at how well he played (next to Cannavaro, which has a lot to do with it) in the season when Inter got the the CL semis (2002/03 was it?). Now THAT was world class, surely.

Cordoba is a great defender but he occasionally has lapses which costs us big time. But it's weird how he and the rest of the defence have improved with Miha's addition. I'm shocked. :o

yeah I totally agree with you miha is improved inter defence a lot and it's not just because of him it's because of mancini that knows how to talk with him same applys to stankovic both were under mancini managment for couple of year

cordoba is a avarege defender and nothing speciall about him, it does't matter if the player was the best a 60m next week he will be the last because of drinkin or something else you know how it is, still martins is the fastest one in inter and whole seria a even shevchenko cold him "ferrari"

He covered Miha's ass on three separate occasions in the game against Brescia....Miha is not a defender and he hasn't helped out in our defence much, except putting more burden on King Cordoba. He's just a Midfielder (lacking a lot in athleticism) who moonlights as a defender.
