Why is Veron out there? Why is Crespo out there (when healthy he seems like a guarantee)? Look, they've had great careers, but they hold back the guys like Tevez and Messi. And I don't mind necessarily playing Cambiasso and Mascherano together, but do you really need both of them out there? Trust your defense, and trust a single holding midfielder. I would like to see someone like Palacio out there, or Milito. But they don't have the reputation of a Crespo, or a Cambiasso, or a Veron, and they get slighted. The return of Maxi Rodriguez will solve a lot of their problems, but Argentina needs to stop evaluating players by their reputations.

Fred was called but got injured after the thing started, and seriously "Lucio". He is no better than the other defenders that Brazil called.

Lucio definitely is. Ronaldo probably would have been called up, though it might not have been great for the team. Cicinho wasn't out there either, though I don't rate him higher than Dani Alves anyway.

I think half of those were not on his plans: Roque Junior, Adriano Correia, Marcelo, Daniel Carvalho and Emerson.

ESPN Commentator: "This is the biggest upset of all time"

...

I don't know if that's funny or just pathetic.

They could of played for another few days and Argentina would not have scored. Congrats to Brazil.

True, probably Argentina lacked a "Plan B" for the attack, like using more the wings.

seriously why hasn't Argentina been using the wings lately?

during the world cup they played without a proper rb and now they choose to play without a proper lb, and in the middle it was even worse, i mean Veron, Mascherano, Cambiasso?

This is just why National Team Managers get the big bucks for very little work. Is it easy putting Cambiasso or Mascherano on the bench? Heck no! But it has to be done. And Veron. I mean, I'm still just baffled how this guy is playing a key role for Argentina.

Veron just got called back up after having no major action since 02.

Crespo, still plays at a high level.

I agree about El Cucho and Mascheranoe. Both don't need to be out there at the same time, unless it is 2-1 with Argentina up late in the game.

What an embarrassing performance by the team. Big congrats to Brazil, they certainly earned the win here!

I agree...Veron's passes were weak through the whole tournament. But there's not one single player to blame for this lousy performance. The whole team sucked and they didn't deserve to win. I'm SO pissed off now. :(

Ah..one thing still. Did you notice how the Braz defenders won ALL the headers in their penalty area? Argentina certainly could use some tall forwards. Perhaps someone like Julio Cruz?

How about Milito? He was sitting on the bench the whole time.

No idea you guys, but i don't see Ronaldo playing on the national team anymore, same with Cris, Emerson, Roque Junior, and maybe the keepers, and who are Correia and Daniel Carvalho?

And again Fred was called for the Copa América, but he spent most of the matches in the bench injured.

Mascherano is a pure DM while Cambiasso isn't exactly a CM but he isn't exactly a LM however he's better on the left than the right, Mascherano is an unargeable starter, in my opinion he was the best player of Argentina, along with Zanetti.
In my opinion Palacio is only one that should've been get rid off, fortunately he hardly got to play which is good but a waste of a spot. I would've called Saviola instead, Milito played and he didn't accomplish the expectations and also the people and Basile wanted Tevez as a starter, and the one that had to be sacrificied was Milito, i don't know like what you say if Crespo would have not been injured if Tevez would have still been on the bench. I think it may not be all about reputation but then again that'd explain the case of Palacio and Riquelme only and why Milito didn't stay as the true replacement of Crespo but then again i don't think you can talk about reputation with the kinds of Mascherano, who is still young and is trying to earn a reputation.

Also to answer the PSG fan, i don't know why, but it was evident we were needing the shot which Riquelme hits the post came from a play of Messi from the wing, that pretty much says it all. And like i said in the half-time about the midfield maybe Gago and Aimar should've came in for Cambiasso and Verón.

And i don't think the back players had anything to do neither here nor in the World Cup.

Argentina lacked of humility (anyone who watched Fox Sports Latinamerica could say so), humility and tactical order that Brazil had.

Brazil wasn't a pile of stars like Argentina, Argentina is what it is because of their individual values ... Brazil defended well in this match and they played like a team ... with men, not names.

Argentina has to think again their tactical scheme, if Brazil with a couple of guys that play in Russia and Ucrania beat them ... I can't imagine what a european team would do with them.

It's a pity for Argentina, they had a great cup and I liked how they did so far ... but as Dani Alves said Brazil is Brazil, y lamentablemente los brasileros los tienen de hijos a los argentinos.

Yeah, in the last 5 years I guess ... if we take a look at the statistics or some time periods (most likely the 80s) could be the opposite.

Watched the game again...and it's quite apparent that they just somehow "lost" it. I don't know what happened, partly it was Brazilian good defense and marking, but they just didn't have it yesterday. Maybe they were too nervous in the beginning, I dunno...

This all-star team lacks the charisma, dedication and brutal desire to win big games against equal teams. Same thing happened in Germany 2006 World Cup. They couldn't get into their normal performance level.

People always said how Bilardo's Argentina was boring to watch. And it WAS... but that team was full of warriors: Olarticoechea, Batista, Simon, Ruggeri and Giusti weren't exciting to watch, but they were extremely tough and brutal if needed... among the rules of course (and sometimes not lol) This team has all the skill in the world but it lacks the "killer instinct"...they're soft. They definitely need more toughness against the world class teams.
