Copa America Draw

Internazionale

Elo Ratings
Concacaf Gold Cup: 6 - 24 June, 2007

Copa America: 26 June - 15 July, 2007

Would USA & Mexico field the same players as they will compete in the Gold Cup & Copa America in just a few days of the difference ?

btw, I still believe Venezuela will go through.

I don't know about the US but I remember reading something a couple of months back about CONCACAF telling the FMF that if they didn't bring their best team to the Gold Cup there would be trouble. They feel that the Gold Cup should be a higher priority for them than the Copa America. I don't know if they've backed off that stance or not since then but we'll see how it works out when it gets closer to the tournaments.

Hey guys: I think it would be fun to check out who people think will be included in their nation's "list of 23".

GK (usually 2-3)
DF (prob 6)
MF (usually 8)
FW (usually 4-5)

I have a special message for Carlos Warner: go f*ck yourself. Copa América is the higher priority in my opinion, since the level of play in CONMEBOL is much higer than in CONCACRAP. To me, a quarterfinal appearance in Copa América is much more important than winning the Gold Cup.. In fact, I hope that we and Mexico tank the Gold Cup, saving ourselves for Copa América.

To sum things up using two popular American beers as examples of quality or lack thereof:

Gold Cup=Bud Light
Copa América=Sam Adams

it's on baby. 2 - 2 :p

lol i tought you were going to say 2:0 for mexico , cause you say brazil are going to get it, it figures thats the most we can expect, its funny , but we need to change that mentality :)

and about mexico and the US taking their fisrt squads to copa america , i think the real question is if brazil and argentina are going take their A teams? (H) , if brazil are going to take the A team well let just forget about this copa its already a done deal lol

Yeah, I was already thinking of points, it be a good result que no? After that we'd have much more manegable games. Ecuador is a pretty even match-up for us and Chile as well but getting a point from Brasil can have us on a much better paved road to advance out of the group.

i really think mexico can beat chile and ecuador easily, and maybe ( thast a huge maybe ) mexico can get a surprising result against brazil, they just need to learn to finish the plays, creating chances has never been a problem for mexico, that game against the US was a perfect example.

for staters they really need to dump borgetti and blanco, they did their time for mexico but now they are just a waste of space, kikin imo is a highly overrated player i mean superbly highly overrated, lol, i dont understand what does his fans see in him really, we basicly only have bravo an bautista and medina as our ofensive guns, and well maybe castillo, we still need to see if will play for mexico.

I would be genuinely surprised if they didn't. When was the last time a host was eliminated in a tournament's first round?

Just like the World Cup.

Anyway, this should be a great competition and I'll be really mad if the United States and Mexico do not bring their A teams. We are lucky enough that CONMEBOL are allowing us to participate in their competition and we should show that we have respect for it. Bringing a B team would be the easiest way to make sure we don't return anytime soon.

Oh....... the Gold Cup winner gets to play in the Confederations Cup!??! Wow! What an honor!! Well we can't tank that competition then, otherwise we'd miss an opportunity to play in the prestigious Confederations Cup!

Are you kidding me? CONMEBOL wants us to participate. They invite us every time, even though we turned them down two times in a row. We turned them down for 2007 as well, and they invited Costa Rica, but then we changed our minds and they jumped at the opportunity to take us back. This isn't like Copa Libertadores where we're fighting to get in.

The Confederations Cup will be in the summer of 2009, in South Africa and will be the best preparation we can have for the World Cup. Perfect opportunity to test players with only a year left until the World Cup. Perfect opportunity for the players to familiarize themselves with South Africa and play in some of the venues they will be playing in in 2010. It might not be as prestigious of a tournament as Copa America, but given its proximity to the World Cup one could argue it's more important.

Apparently we're sending an U-23 team to the Pan Am games this summer. The team will consist primarily of college players and MLS guys who aren't getting playing time for their clubs. In other words, guys who won't make either the Gold Cup or Copa America rosters and are too old to make the U-20 World Cup roster.

That's crazy though, in June and July we're going to have four teams in action:

National team at Gold Cup
National team at Copa America
U-23's at Pan American games
U-20's at U-20 World Cup

They both want to win the cup this year. Apparently both coaches pointed that it's a priority.

Now the deal would be, what the hell is Argentina's A team? Since Basile will try to get a team with mostly domestic players. And what's Brazil's A team these days?
