Conceding free kicks.

I'm a PES guy since PES3 and have never looked back. However seeing as PES2008 and 2009 were both disappointing, I decided to give the PC version of FIFA 09 a try. Despite it being last-gen, it's decent enough.

But there is one thing that is driving me nuts and pretty much ruining my experience: Conceding free kicks.

In my first Manager Mode game, I lost 0-3 to Wigan. Antonio Valencia scored a hattrick of free kicks in the first 35 minutes, the third of them being an absolutely ridiculous strike from 40 yards.

The next game I have Aston Villa, Young hits the crossbar with his first attempt, scores with his next.

It's not just decent teams, in my first League Cup game I played Brighton I think, and conceded the first goal from a free kick. I went on to win 5-1, but it's still annoying.

What can I do? I know I'll be told to stop giving away free kicks, but these things happen, sometimes you just bump into a player and it's a free. I'm strongly considering taking control of the AI team if they get a free kick and blasting it out for a throw... : /

Perhaps there is a patch that lowers every player's FK stat?

valencia plays for man utd. get my 7 leagues update. he wont be scoring 3 free kick goals for wigan on you anymore.

dont lower the stats. try to move the wall in the way ? make the wall jump or rush the ball or both to block it ( i use a logitech controller button 4 to jump, 3 to rush & both to do both.

if you foul a lot try to call secondary help to swarm him into a mistake, intead of making a bad tackle, in 1 on 1 stand your ground a let him run into you dont rush the attacker.

Well I've been playing more and more games and having a bit more luck, though you do still get the wonder goals from Gavin McCann. :P

One other thing, I play with Man City and on wings I have Robinho and Tevez. Problem is, Robinho gets tired so fast, he's pretty much useless to me after 40 minutes, why is this yet Tevez can go for 90 minutes and even more?

tevez has more stamina and work rate than robinho, even in real life. i haven't watched that many city games. but for brazil, robinho usually gets subbed off first, even before ronaldinho

i concede a lot of free kicks too in FIFA 09 PC, and the AI scores more often than not, even if it's a ****ty FK taker like carvalho or nesta. its annoying. but on the other hand, in PES 09, they dont score as much on free kicks, and sometimes they do. in FIFA 09 for 360, AI NEVER scores on free kicks even if its pirlo, beckham, or xavi

but i kinda like it like this, its more challenging. not realistic, but challenging. i learn not to foul as much. but when i do, like regcat said, i move my wall towards where the bigger gap is between the keeper and the FK taker and press the "through pass" button to make the wall jump just as the kick is taken. i can intercept the ball with the wall 1 out of 3 times i think. and the rest, chances of keeper getting the ball is 50/50 for me. no matter what the game difficulty is and the keeper difficulty is, the AI fk success rate still feels the same. but whatever (i'm still a PES fan)
