I don't think this has been mentioned for a while. What is happening with Nack's FIFA commentary patch? He said April last time i recall. Any news...??

last Nack post at evoweb has been posted Tuesday, Mar 23, 2004 10:53 am

few post before he wrote:
Yes I want to have it complete within the next couple of months!
it was in March so "couple of months"+ March = May, June or July (or later, who knows)

PES4 will be in September...

Well even if he releases it just before PES4, i'm sure it will be easily adaptable for PES4, as the commentary structure is bound to be very similar.

I doubt that - it hasn't changed much in the last few incarnations of the game, so i can't see it will be that much different next time round. They've always focused on gameplay with PES anyway, so commentary is bound to be a casualty yet again.

I think they will change each element to be non-compatible with previous versions
just look at WE7:I PC, it's nearly the same game as PES3, but they changed kits and boots structure a bit - for what? It doesn't make the game better than previous in kits/boots look
commentary idea was messed too, just look:

there are 5 data_x.afs, each is the same instead of commentary, each takes about 670 Mb, and each contains all 5 language versions

so we have: 5*670 Mb= 3350 Mb = over 3 Gb
only commentary inside each data_x.afs has about 250 Mb
they could make just 1 data.afs and 5 separate commentary files (eg. commentary_e.afs, commentary_i.afs, etc.) and it could take just about:

data.afs - 420 Mb
commentary_x.afs - where "x" - is letter of language (e, f, i, g, and s) - 250 Mb*5 = 1250 Mb

so all the game could be much smaller (about 2 Gb less); if they will be smart, they fix that and will make better commentary coz they will have more space available for this

I'm not waiting so 'hot' on Nack fifa commentary patch, I listened mp3 he relased and it was good but nothing special, coz I heard fifa commentary when I played fifa so it's nothing new for me. Maybe if someone would try to create his own english commentary as enjoyable as Japaneese commentary it could be more interesting...but it's just me

Well, WE7:I PC was for a different market, and i would imagine almost certainly handled by a different team - i.e Konami America perhaps, whereas Konami Europe handled PES3:PC. I'm sure this had something to do with it.

And as for Nack's patch, i wouldn't expect anyone to get excited by an MP3. This doesn't even begin to give an idea of the experience of actually playing the game with new commentary.

I'm not sure what your point is in regards to the commentary file size. It boils down to the fact that Brooking and Brackely are not as good commentators as Motty and co. - simple as that. The size devoted to the commentary has nothing to do with it.

The European commentary has never been good, and Konami must know this (the fans have been complaining for years!). Their focus is on the gameplay, and always has been. They have the Japanese commentary down very well, so probably aren't too bothered about other languages.
