This year the english premiership title race is quite boring. Seems like chelsea were running away with it, but the only team who *may*, and a big may is man u.

however dip into the championship and the title race is very fascinating. top 3 teams, all tied on points. with 10 points before the next set of teams - wigan, sunderland, ipswich.

who's gonna win?

well, sunderland has a huge stadium capacity and fan following, but the team needs to be good enough to play in it

Damn, after today with Wigan and ITFC both going down, theres a three way tie atop the Championship! Thats gonna be some intresting stuff down the stretch. I too kinda want Sunderland to be in the top flight, but its shocking how clubs like Wolves, Leeds, Leicester have become mid table sides in the Championship. I guess thats good though, not to have the same teams yo-yoing up and down all the time

When i looks at those teams Wigan sticks out as being the most financially capable of bringing in the better quality players if they are to go up.

Sunderland have a great manager, he gets the best out of his squad and it would be nice to play the Mackems again next season.

Ipswich to win it, Wigan second.

However, upon entering the Premier League, Wigan will be the team to watch. They have some $$$ tucked away and I expect them to be a reasonable force.

This summer, my cousin from Dundalk, Ire was playing one of those newspaper "pick em" games about league finishes and who will get promoted, relegated, etc. He mentioned that one team had a chairman who promised to spend something like a hundred million Euros (thought that seems way too high) on a transfer budget if they got into the top flight. Was that Wigan then? Im guessing it wasnt near that much, but thats gotta be kinda tough for a team, knowing that if they make it up there and do their jobs, they just may get replaced by someone better :o

wigan were promised at least £10 million from chairman for transfers when they got promoted to the premiership. that was promised around 3-4 years ago, so maybe it has gone up since.

however, the ppl turning up to watch them play averages close to 10,000 - which is poor when you are touching the doors of the premiership.

Wigan's always been a rugby stronghold, but yep their attendances are a little disappointing.

true, but i think the fact you have 5 premiership teams within 20 miles had something more to do with it

Hahaha. All the big teams would love to have these hated local championship sides come up just to take the 6 points off em every year. West Ham and Leeds are probably the best examples I can come up with only cause everyone in London has got it in for the former, and everyone from Yorkshire to the WestMidlands hate the latter. Actually, im not even sure that does justice to all the hate for leeds out there :p :f***:

The great thing with the championship is, both Ipswich and Wigan are almost guaranteed money earners in terms of betting each week. I usually use one or both to act as 'multipliers', so that even if they are only paying $1.50 to win, they still multiply my winnings by 150 percent. WIth both, you do the math.
