Classic Rock Thread

The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zep.

Post some songs you really like from any classic rock artists or groups, I for one hear their music everywhere, but sometimes have a hard time getting the name of the tunes.

I will start off:

Jimi Hendrix: Along the watchtower(Dylan cover)

Bob Dylan: Knockin on Heaven's Door

Pink Floyd,Led Zep,The Eagles, The Rolling Stones,The Who, The doors: House of the Rising Sun(Dylan cover) they have each done one version I think.

The Eagles: Hotel California

Chacarita Juniors

The artist formerly known as ronnifan9
Pink Floyd: "Time", "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Echoes", "Wish You Were Here"

Jimmy Hendrix: "Little Wing", "Hey Joe", "Winds Cry Mary",

"Time" by Pink Floyd is one of my Top-10 songs of ALL-TIME. :rockman:

The Beatles aren't classic rock. They're a sixties boyband.

Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower, purple haze, voodoo chile, hey joe, little wing, machine gun.
Rolling Stones - Like a rolling stone, symapthy for the devil, start me up, paint it black, jumping Carlos flash, satisfaction, wild horses.
Deep Purple - Smoke on the water.
Black Sabbath - Paranoid.

And much more, but I've got to go now. (H)

A lot of good Jimi Hendrix songs have been mentioned but one that gets very little mention is "Freedom", awesome tune especially the end.
Stairway To Heaven by Led Zep is another classic.
Eric Clapton, the original Layla (not the unplugged one - which is also great)
Van Halen, Eruption. Gotta love the double tapping.
Any Stevie Ray Vaughan tune...although they might not be old enough to be considered classic rock.

The SRV version of Little Wing is much better than the Jimi Hendrix version because it hasn't got that annoying bell...and it's longer.

There are far too many "classic songs" to list. Pretty much anything from the Stones, LedZep, Floyd, Cream.... etc but also the not so "popular" bands such as Humble Pie, Uriah Heep, Traffic, Them, Grand Funk.... etc.

And there is also the best song from the Velvet Underground - Oh' Sweet Nuthin'

And for the Little Wing fans, make sure you get yourself the extended instrumental version - pure guitar genius

....and Van Halen SUCKS!!!!

I went to see Status Quo in concert recently, not a big fan but tickets were cheap so I thought I might aswell, it was pretty good on the whole.

Anyway, in my opinion the best classic rock bands (best songs in brackets) are Steppenwolf (Born to be Wild, Don't Begat that Joint), CCR (Fortunate Son, Mustang Sally), Black Sabbath (Paranoid, The Wizard), The Velvet Underground (The She Goes Again, Venus in Furs), The Who (Won't Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes), Led Zeppelin (No Quarter, All My Love) and The Kinks (Sunny Afternoon, Lola).

Though my favourite branch of rock is definately where it meets country and Beat Gen - the likes of Tom Waits, Frank Zappa - my two favourite musicians.

If GNR is considered classic rock, then count me in! Appetite for Destruction is brilliant from the first to the last song, both Use your illusion albums have gems on 'em, and that acoustic EP is good as well. The spaghetti incident I don't like though.
