The fact that dribbling is very nice on the eyes, doesn't make it all that useful. Yes, when mastered, it makes a great play to watch, but I'd rather see a player pass it back, keep it simple, and shoot when the best occasion presents itself, than the player trying to get around the defence and only then think about scoring. Don't get me wrong, I admire a player for his ability to dribble, but I'd rather have a player like Lampard, who dribbles occasionaly, than Messi, who dribbles every chance he gets. Not saying one is better than the other, they're incomparable, they don't play the same style, and not the same position, but a team of Lampard's would beat one of Messi's, IMO. I prefer watching Chelsea play than Barca, I feel like Barca players constantly try to impress each other by outdoing one another in dribble, and Chelsea seem to know what each player can do and can't do, and don't feel the need to impress anyone with anything else other than results. And they still impress.

I have more respect for someone like Totti than for most other players out there. Because from what I've seen, he can literally do anything. Great passing, great shooting, incredible vision, and he an defend when it needs be. And I've seen Totti do some incredibnle trickery. But I've rarely seen him doing it because he keeps it simple, if he can give someone a good pass instead of do 3 summersaults and vanish into thin air, only to then pass, and risk losing the ball at some point, he'll pass the ball immediately. He only dribbles when he's positive he will remain in posession, and I, myself, have never seen him lose the ball when dribbling, or do an unecessary trick. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I think it's rarer than with Messi, who dribbles a lot, pulls it off a lot, but it's obvious he could pass at other times, and instead he loses the ball.

That's what I appretiate about the Chelsea team, but I've never been much of a fun of consistent dribbling.

We're different. I like it when the player pulls off some nice tricks and then passes the ball. I like beautiful football, I like Joga Bonito, I like it when players stun the crowd with their trickery, I like technical football like the one Barca plays, and I like complexity and constant attacking combined with brave moves. I think that's what football is/should be about.
We like opposite kinds of football.

Your philosophy is based on results and results only, while mine pays more attention to how those results are achieved.

No no no, you misunderstood, or I might've misexplained. I appretiate tricks, but I don't think they're as necessary, and I think a nicely crafted, trick-less move that leads to goal is much better than 10 breathtaking swivels that don't get you anything. I love to see players with vision, players who with one glance can locate to where and to who they should pass the ball, and who with one touch send the ball perfectly. I'm not saying that I don't like tricks, but I admire Zidane for his vision, not tricks.

I don't even see that much of this "joga bonito" from Barca anyway, unless against lower opposition. Just like Ronaldinho, it's all a myth.

yep, zidane`s tricks are often for a use.. they`re not only destined for being useless tricks.. he opens some space or steals time for his teammates to get positioned.. thats the vision and unlike any other player, his tricks look great when he does them..

no offence to ronaldinho but he plays a bit "joga bonitaish".. he enjoys while playing and this sometimes be great, but sometimes be boring for me.. thus I fancy zidane more.. and thats an opinion, I`d like to remind that before ronaldinho bitches attack me..

With all due respect to Barcelona's "showboys," it takes more than dribbling ability to be named a complete footballer! look at someone like Ballack! he is extremely good with the ball in his feet, but u hardly see him dribble, U know why? Keep it simple! Silly!

or like okocha who always kept everything simple, as can be see in his DVD "Superskills with Jay-Jay Okocha" (which I haven't seen and I'm not interested either).

true kaycee..i never liked spanish teams nor barca..
but get over it. :nape:

by the way.....the bottom line is that John Obi Mikel sucks big time and is not even worth 1m. good we got 12 m for him!

Anyway, what results is he talking about? I'd say la Liga and CL are pretty good results.

Style is not the problem.

If that was a response to my post, then you misunderstood. I said we pay attention to how we get our results, unlike Chelsea. I never said we didn't get any results.

Our team has been the definition of Joga Bonito for the past two seasons.

We're having some problems now, some issues to solve within the squad, and naturally it has affected our game, but once we've dealt with our problems, you'll see beautiful football again.
BTW it's not like we haven't displayed it this season, too. Just not that often as we used to.

both midfield's have their strong points, i wouldnt conclusively choose one midfield over the other.

Id probably have Deco, Ballack and Essien

with Barca's attack of Etoo ronaldinho and Messi. Both systems have their advantages though

It wasn't. He=Mandieta6.

I agree with all you said actually.

I just meant that in any case we don't have to defend the spectacle against the results. It's possible to get the results with our players and our style. We don't have to choose between one or the other.

I still think Barcelona are the best footballing team to watch and to think that we actually took out 4 points off them is a great achievement, i wouldn't say they are out of the CL tho since they still have a good chance especially if they win or draw with Bremen, since i think Mourinho won't change much of his lineup against Bremen, and as for Sofia, they'll probably end-up with 0 points...........so, it'll probably finish like this...
assuming Barca beat Bremen(which is not a certainty btw) and Chelsea draw with Bremen
Chelsea 14 pts*
Barcelona 11 pts*
Bremen 8 pts->Uefa-cup
L.Sofia 0 pts
just a guess...........

I will choose chelsea's midfield and replace lampard with Deco or Xavi.

If I had the luxury to pick from all sides, this would be my team.

------------------------Cech---------------------------------

---------------Carvalho------------Terry---------------------

--Zambrotta-------------------------------------Cole-----------

-----------------------Makelele--------------------------------

-----------Essien---------------------Ballack-------------------

-----Ronaldinho------------------------------------------------

------------------------Shevchenko--------------Eto'o [or DD]----------

It really must hurt to see chelsea spend 16 -26 million on young Africans while rejecting English players? huh?

Bridge, Johnson, Parker, e.t.c......

Kaycee2g, why do you keep attacking people like that?? first you slam barca, then you question someone about croatia, then you go after newcastle, and now you thrown in chelsea rejecting english players, :nape:

Chelsea are a good team, they beat barca. there now lets move on..

kaycee2g

Mi Maestro, I do not see it as attacking people. He said Obi was not worth a dime, i just wondered why chelsea spent 16 million on a player not worth a dime, yet, reject players from his country!!!! its just an inquiry.

We all saw the way Jose Mourinho ncut Scott Parker like a bad habit... but chased Mikel around the whole world!

Chasing an unproven player vs. a player with potential isn't something to be proud, even I'm aware of that. I'd have kept Parker for a little more if I was Mourinho's puppeteer. You are obviously stupid, kaycee, and I'm ashamed of supporting the same team as you.]

BTW, why are you knocking on Barsa and then replacing players who pretty much the image of Chelsea for those who are the image of Barsa?

I'm sure that if 3 people here, just 3, said Mancienne was the greatest youngster ever, you'd replcace Terry for him in your lineup.
