Well in my opinion(for what its worth),i dont want to sail through the competition by beating the less talented sides.Although if thats the way it happens then "Thank you God"To be worthy champions we have to stuff the best on offer, and if we cant do that then we will not deserve the title "European Champions".Beat the best and the arguments stop right there.

In my opinion, there is no shame in getting drawn with a subpar side in the round of 16 in terms of ones legitimacy to win the crown. We will still have to go through three more top sides in six games to gain that title, and those are going to be the cream of the European crop. I would welcome them in the following order, myself

Villareal (obvious)
Lyon (they are dangerous, but PSV handled them last year well, and Jose can outfox Houllier)
Inter (they just seem to lack the conviction sometimes)
Bayern (well organized and dangerous, but we managed to beat them last year)
Milan (older and slower, yes, but their attack has some of the worlds best individual talent running it)
Barca (see above, minus the old and slow part. The loss of Xavi wont be felt as bad if Van Bommel can patch it up, but maybe a defense and midfield like ours can stem their attack somewhat)
Juve (no explaination necesscary. Well organized, dangerous, motivated, well coached. Getting them would be a nightmare)

Oh, and Happy Bday indeed to JT. A born leader, warrior, club ambassador, shining example of the English game, and still only 25. This club is blessed to have him.

And im willing to bet that we were 12 away from selling him to you at that point, but things change Bobby.

It would have made more sense, though, if we sold you all gallas and cudi, and shipped JT to the mancs, with them being his favorite boyhood club and all.

but thats all on the mum. Officially, I am required to disavow any knowledge which has its origins in a Rupert Murdoch subsidiary.

Yeah, they are in fantastic form, only lost 1 in all competitions this year. I wouldn't want Man utd to play them, oh wait... :(

So it looks as if Essien will be gone for at least the first leg of the knockout round, maybe more.

I will be the first to say that despite all my words in the Matchday 6 game thread, this is long overdue. The Bison has been rash with his challenges now twice in one season. Sooner or later, he is going to break a leg, or even worse, Lamps, JT, Duffer, Joey, Billy, one of the rest are gonna get a retaliatory leg break from some filthy bastards like Blackburn where cheap tackles are a dime a dozen

Jose needs to sort this out right now, and sit this lad down to let him know that what hes doing is not ok. Its exceedingly clear that he is our version of Keane and Vieira, but even they were not indiscriminantly cheap bastards. A hardman can be a hardman without being a coward.

On top of that, I was ashamed to hear that Jose supposedly "didnt see" the challenge on Hamman. Granted, Sissoko was a rough little sh*t out there himself, but christ, selective blindness like that is one of the seminal reasons I hate Arsene Wenger so passionately. Then he came today to insist he isnt a dirty player. Sorry Mikael, but I dont buy it.

I just dont ever want to win with the monniker of being dirty. We didnt need to resort to thuggery to waltz to the title last year.

Ugh, that game was just ugly on all levels. I just want to put that nonsense behind us.

Anyway, regarding saturday:

Once again, Captain Marvel comes through. JT saves our asses like the leader he is, and another fearless performance for Wigan is rendered useless. But the point is, Joey played well in a lineup where he featured in the middle, we sported an attack of Crespo with Joey, Duff, and Robben in support (Y) (albeit, they couldnt engineer a breakthrough, but Wigan are no walkover) something i hope Jose is willing to do a little more frequently in future.

The point is, we are not really playing well, something Jose acknowledges, but weve managed to not drop any points in over a month now. Obviously, thats the sign of a champion, but there is a ways to go yet. Still, the prospect of being

+12(H)

over Liverpool (who saw that one coming in October?) and the Mancs is nothing to scoff at. This point last year, we were only about +5 to +8 over the gooners. Now, were up 14 on them.

One question persists with me, though. I like Ricardo Carvalho, I have usually defended him, and I think he is a class defender. But why is he constantly keeping either Paulo, Del boy or Bridgey out of the starting 11? Anyway, in Jose we trust I guess.

Your gonna have to speak up, mate. Your 6 month old bragging is difficult to hear when youre 12 points back (C)

Still, we all know were gonna have plenty of chances to get back to the same point in the coming years. But getting hammered 1-4 at home, well, thats something that only happens once in a lifetime (H)

You will never reach the same point as Liverpool in the coming years, or ever. Win 16 more titles and 5 more european cups (sorry, make that and 5 european cups) and you still won't be credited with the same praise as we have. Everyone will just say that you bought your glory, no matter what happens in the future.

Now go try win your first euro cup (C)

Ah yes, the familiar hubcap reliance on history to explain why theyre so superior. I guess next comes the reminder about how badly youve thrashed the lower half of the table to reach the lofty heights of (gasp!) second in the league.

Sure mate, no problem. Were off to try and win domestic title number 3 and Euro cup number 1. Maybe when we reach your achievements in a quarter the time it took you (unless English clubs get kicked out of Europe for another half decade....) you can go ahead and cry into your beer about how we bought everything we will have won, because I doubt anyone else will care

Then again, given the ease with which youve blown two insignificant jibes into some kind of personal vendetta, Im willing to bet you might not be of age for another decade at least.

(ahoy scousers, despite the tone, my post is meant to be taken in jest :ewan: )

You know what the best thing about your glory period is?

You didnt get to see it, I will get to the club I love and its period of dominance and its going to be sweet.

Now grow some pubes.
