Coming into last nights game, we were already top of the group, with nothing to play for but pride. As long as Valencia didn't beat us at the Bridge, which they couldn't, then last nights game went exactly to plan.
Avram said days before the game how unimportant it was, and with the Arsenal game on the horizon, its obvious where his priorities would lay.
As you say, only an idiot would have risked the players by insisting on a battle to the death with Valencia last night and Avram isn't an idiot. I think most sensible managers would have done the same.
Also to be honest, very few of our games are "dour" as you put it. It all depends on the tactics of the other team whether a match is dour or not. If trying to break down an 11 man Sunderland defence for 93 minutes turns out to be dour for some people, then maybe those people should appreciate and understand the reasons WHY a game like that for instance, might be hard work to watch, for the nutural fan. In that case their problem lies with Sunderland and not Chelsea.
Personally I don't give a crap what anyone might think about Chelsea anyhow. I'm sure most fans feel the same about their own team too.
Like any team, you need to watch them week in and week out to really be able to have definitive opinion. It's no good people forming any conclusions after watching one incredibly meaningless game, and then remembering (selective memory needed here ), a couple of other uninspiring performances during the season.
Most teams has its share of great days, good days, mediocre days and bad days, during a season. When you look at the top 4 teams in the EPL, no one team can lay claim to the boast that THEY are the only team who entertain and at the same time, win in every game they play.
During a season we all have difficult games, easy games, boring games and "dour" games. The percentage swing is probably very similar from team to team too.
If I formed an opinion about Man U, based on the worst three games I have seen them play this season, then I would come to the conclusion that they are crap. They are indeed NOT crap as we know, so that tells me that a little more research, (with an open and nutural mind of course), would be needed on my part to form a more accurate opinion.
Or, I could just go into the Man U thread like a muppet and say, " Oi, I watched you lose the Bolton game last night, so in my opinion, Man U are a boring, crap team of losers."
That would show only two things though. One would be the fact that I am obviously a muppet, and secondly that I do not think very deeply when it comes to football. (And probably every other subject too). Both options would be spot on.
Chelsea are there for the chelsea fans, and if some other people don't like what they see, then don't watch them. Simple.
I'm sure most fans feel the same about their own team too.
