Changing squad status

How can i change the squad status for a player after i offer him the contract...for example some players refuse to come when i tell them that they will be used as backup. When i try to offer them another contract i don`t have the option to change thier squad status (i.e.) if i told them in the first offer that they`ll be backups; i can`t change it in the second offer and hence they never come.

Have u all got that problem or is it a bug in my copy?

that happens to me too...
i usually check their current wages to see what type of status they'll accept.
if you choose the wrong one, then you'll have to wait a while and risk loosing him to someone else, but eventually it will let you change your choice

u r stuck with this status because once u have said this to the player, he knows that u originally only want him as that... so now if u tried to offer him more, he would know anyway u dont actually want him as anything else.
Relate it to real world and stop thinking of the players as computer controlled things...

That happens to me all the time when I purchase new players. I ALWAYS set the highest status there is to acquire a player over other clubs that also are looking to purchase that particular player.

If I'm not going to use him right away, I relegate him to the reserve team and change his status according to what he expects, but not below it). Sometimes it works, it all depends on the player's behaviour.:o

THe player won't forget for 2 weeks normally
try again after 2 weeks
this forces the manager to treat the player properly, not just offering any position to put pen to paper, like cm98/99
