congratulations to porto, but is always sad when a team that plays such an anti-football style of play wins anything.

A solid team and a solid defense means anti-football style of play?? Porto fully DESERVED to win the trophy, if u saw for example the Porto-Man Utd game you would see that we don't play anti-football but nice attacking football, the fact is sometimes when the opponent is a strong team u have to make a good game in the back and Porto's team is very good doing that...

the only team that played to win the game was Monaco. Porto just sat back all 11 players on their field most of the game. We don't all have to like that style of football.

The only thing 2 things I saw him do all match was the kick to Baia when he tried to shoot the ball, and the time that he made it seem like he was on a long run just because there was no player around to stop him. No Monaco player played well yesterday, Roma and Rothen were absolute crap. Prso wasn't too good, but definitely wasn't the worst IMO. What killed Monaco was that Morientes was usually offside and after a while the linesman didn't really care if he was onside or not.
My MoM goes to Paulo Ferreira, set up the first goal for Carlos Alberto, and also had a deadly cross-in before that, and was rock-solid stopping everybody on the right, and that's why Monaco kept going towards Nuno Valente on the left flank.
Porto was far from being a great-team yesterday, and Porto were pretty much inviting Monaco to come and do something and score a goal, but they never did anything with their advantage. If you see a team playing defensively your obstacle is to get a goal, Monaco failed miserably in doing that.Originally posted by valioso

Ibarra didn't make 5 runs btw, maybe like 2 or something, and they only lasted 2 runs because he was selfish and the times he wasn't selfish he passed to a Porto defender.
And BTW: I don't want to see MILAN fans complaining about the style of football from Porto, since they played exactly like Milan do all their games. With no wingers in midfield and just having a defender(Cafu/Ferreira) running up and down the field. Not attractive, but it wins games. The rule in football is to put the ball past the line. Porto did that 3 times compared to Monaco's one, I don't care about the linesman he made mistakes, but even then how do we know Morientes would've gotten a goal? Baia is no super-keeper but he's not the worst 1 on 1 goalkeeper in Europe. Even then, Morientes wasn't that good either come to think of it, he was never in the right position to score a goal, and in the air, where he's very good as well, he didn't produce much either for Monaco.

Maybe you were beating your pud in the middle of the match or somethin'

A mere coincidence? I THINK NOT!
He didn't have more than 2 runs, neither of which produced anything. And if Ibarra was so strong on the right, how come both of Porto's goals in the second half came after they(Porto) came storming down the right-flank?

I'm not complaining. I said they didnt play attractive football, and that is the true. I'm not asking for attractive football. Plus Morientes on 4 one on ones (or 3, i dont remember how many times the linesman screwed him up) would at least score 1.
I agree Morientes was mediocre at best, but even on a bad day, you have to be careful with him. I disagree about our style of play, because when we play Pancaro at the left he always makes runs, plus Seedorf is a very good passer and dribbler and joins the attack. And dont forget Pirlo, that is a very good passer of the ball and his neat long passes. Milan are more attractive and we rely on through passes and individual runs by players more than Porto does. Plus we dont sit back, we attack most of the time.

I feel sorry for Monaco. Porto shouldn't have been there in the first place (Man Utd -> bad bad bad decisions) but without wishing to cry about that I feel that the linesman let down Monaco: whoever scored the second goal was going to swing the pendulum in their direction. Some fishy decisions, and Giuly getting injured (he now misses Euro 2004!) did not exactly aid Monaco's cause.
In that specific game. And what Porto did to Monaco was the same, so you cant say nothing at all. And Milan are by far a best team to watch than Porto.Originally posted by [dfm]
Did u saw the last European Supercup?? Porto taught a lesson of attacking football to Milan in that game but we lost, never forget that one cause Porto showed best football than Milan...
