You proved that playing football, AND making dives (Carlos Alberto anyone?) AND with the help of bad referee decisions.

Got to drag up this old-ish thread... Not been on the boards for over a week and have to congratulate you Porto fans on your team's win the other day.

It wasn't the most exciting match for the neutral but it wasn't boring like the UEFA cup final neither.

In honesty I thought Monaco offered too much of an attacking threat and Porto's chance would only be if they were first to score. I felt that if they conceded first then their usual solid and organised approach would have to be compromised and that was their main strength. As it was Porto scored 1st and Monaco, despite impressing as an attacking unit in every other game could find no way through.

I maybe shouldn't but I have to say it... I was glad to see Porto play a clean game in the final. Was v. disappointed with their sportsmanship leading up to it but they cleaned up for the final.

Wtf was Mourinho's problem though? He went down in my estimation with his 'disappointment' at winning the CL. If he ever wins it again then Porto's win will be his greatest achievement because of the budget and players at his disposal. He got them playing in the only way that it would be possible for them to win the CL. He should realise that.

Hats off to you though Porto, deserved the CL and for me they are the team of the season.

Erm? Scusem? There were plenty of calls that weren't favoring Porto, quite a few in the final actually. Calls that are good for you come and go, but the reffs didn't play a huge part.

"3 offsides that weren't there.....all three were goals"
Hello, Nostradaumus. Besides, the way Morientes played whenever he wasn't offside, he probably would've missed the chances anyway.

"In that specific game. And what Porto did to Monaco was the same, so you cant say nothing at all. And Milan are by far a best team to watch than Porto."
!? I'm not going to say Porto weren't boring in the final, but... MILAN? Seriously, go look at the last game they had with Porto(the super cup), and say that without laughing your ass off inside. Any and most Italian football is boring, the only good game I've seen from the Serie A this season was probably the Parma-Juventus game a while back. Milan have a good team, Italy have a good team, both teams that win a lot, but both teams that don't normally play any more offensively than Porto did on Wednesday.

To Monkee: The reason that Mourinho left so quickly, was to celebrate with his family for starters, and because he had received death threats.

Fair enough. :) I didn't hear anything about that in the interview after the game though. I initially thought, jokingly, that he was off for a chat with Peter Kenyon. :p

Meh, Porto's directors are saying Chelsea never even approached Mourinho! :o But the thing about the death threats was only revealed towards the end of the week.

First, here's why I'm bringing this thread back up:

1- I wasn't able to be here for the past month, since my HD crashed.

2- I want to ask Shokz if he can put those highlights back up again. (PLEASSSEEE, mate!!)

Here's the stuff I have to get out of my chest (hope anyone reads it):

- This was the best year ever for Porto: we got ourselves a new, fantastic stadium, won the league again, and capped it all with a victory in the most important club trophy of the world, no matter what sport we're talking about.

- Paulo Ferreira is the best RB in europe right now. That goes to all those who didn't take us seriously (bcs he played in the portuguese championship) when we've been saying that for quite some time. Same goes to Ricardo Carvalho. Also, don't know what will happen with Mourinho in Chelsea, but at least for the past 2 years, he was by far the best coach in the world. As was his team!

- Check my prediction back in page 2. It all went according to plan. ;)

- I partied as if there was no tomorrow: went downtown until 3 am, got up the next day 4 ours later and saw the VCI (most important freeway that runs across Porto) completely halted, cars stopped in the sideways, waiting for the bus carrying the champions to pass by. (I got a few pics of that).

-Don't know why, but last year's UEFA Cup win was more emotional. Winning so much in this short amount of time somehow ends up putting things in perspective...

- Winning a Champions League nowadays has nothing to do with winning it 20 years ago. There's the Chelseas and the Real Madrids, who have money to buy all good players out there. You need a deep squad, filled with quality players, and that costs money. Conquering the UEFA Cup and the CL in consecutive years is a fantastic achievement even for teams of the magnitude of the ones I mentioned above. Winning it with Porto is a historic feat!
Some realized it and gave us the deserved credit, many didn't. Like someone wisely said back there, being hated by many is, in this world of pettiness and envy, a sign of greatness. I honestly don't care about them.

- Finally, congrats to Monaco - a great team with a great coach; congrats to all Porto fans in the world and in this board - our behaviour prior and after the game proved one can't take the part for the whole; and we'll be in debt for ever with the champions who gave us this joy - I hope to reach 70yo and tell my grandsons the story of that day and the men who played.

Thanks for reading! :)

I´ve read it and love it. 100% with you! You´re one of the best Porto fans in these boards, clever and impartial as we can be when we must defend our club, besides you are also an important counterpart for some "more heart then brains" Porto fans that we have in these boards. Keep defending our great club the way you have been so far. :rockman:

BTW it was i that said a few months ago, that being hated by so many only demonstrates our greatness because we know we are great by counting the number of enemies that we have, not friends ;) Glad you like it :)

Can't agree more, we're becoming a bigger club everyday. ;) (H)

I will never forget that morning at the VCI, i also was on my way to work and it was unreal, people just started to stop their cars and started to take pictures of our players, it was amazing, that day morning i can assure you that very few people got on time at work. Beautifull!!
