Cell Phones

Hey! i just got a cell phone from my parents on a family plan... and i had a few questions. I wanted to ask here because i know you all are smart people, especially when it comes to technology and stuff.

I have a cingular phone with a family plan with 700 shared minutes. I dont wanna use any of the minutes, i understand that if people call you, your minutes get used up too. but what if they call you, you dont pick up and they leave a message. does it count the minutes then?? i also have this voice mail function, does it count for an x amount of minutes if i use that?? thanks a lot for any help you can give me!

Oh oh ok but anyway to answer your question I'm pretty sure that no minutes get wasted if you don't answer and the person leaves you a message but I could be wrong.

If you are on the phone, you are using minutes. If you don't answer, you aren't on the phone. If you are listening to your voice mail messages, you access the voicemail by DIALING a number, therefore you are using your minutes. If the clock is counting on your phone, you're using minutes. If not, you're not.

Very clear and simple way to put it. Nice job as always Shifty :jap:

I don't know about you guys but I prefer prepaid. It's just easier for me, since I barely call anyone from my cell.

I have a prepaid as well. I wish there was some sort of prepaid deal where I can also get some extra minutes on nights or extra call me minutes or something. Either way, I don't approach $40 a month, so there's no way I'm getting a plan.

Not really, the man's really biased about the Brewers.

$teaua, Verizon is the way. I barely use the minutes since most of my contacts use Verizon. (Y)

At least they're better than the Cubs (H)

Not a dig at Hyun, since he's not a Cubs fan (i don't think), it's just a known fact. Look at the records!

dont get verizon.. verizon is ****.ty CDMA, which means its analog.. either stick with cingular or go with tmobile (you may not like the service of tmobile, but the quality of the calls are much better... say for example cingular has 2 signals its choppy but wen tmobile even has 1 its much better than cingulars 3 or even 4)

i believe that if u dont pick up the phone u dont get charged... however thats the way it is with tmobile, and also at tmobile u can call ur voicemail as many times as u want but its still free.

T-Mobile is good. The cool black dude who sold me the plan told calls between T-Mobile users don't count. We share 1000 minutes between 4 people so it's all good. Reception around here though can be bad; reception in upstate NY and PA was amazing though. Messages are 5 cents each. And yeah, you'll end up sending dozens of useless ones every month.

"Yo where u at"
"We gotsa chill"
"Whats the answer to nr5"
"Nigga plz"

i'm on prepaid

i get 10minutes of free calls for every one dollar i buy of prepaid

prepaid is better because you're not locked in to anything and you can change phones whenever you like

Not true.

The clock is counting on the weekends. The calls are free.
The clock is counting after 9pm. The calls are free.
Calling your voicemail is free, since it's a Cingular number. Calling other Cingular numbers is free too.

But with the whole thing people calling you and you not picking up, I'm not sure at all. When I was out of the country, people tried calling me. I don't have international roaming so the calls didn't even go through, but I still got charged for them.
