CARS:American vs. Rest of world

Pontiakos

Starting XI
So I had a little free time and did a search on NYSE for some popular car companies and was shocked to see the results......well not really we all know American cars suck....

Company Share Price

US-GM 18.00$
US-Ford 8.00$

Japan-Honda 32.00$
Japan-Toyota 113.00$ :O

American cars have always been about power. It's deeply embedded in their motoring culture. Japan consider a more rounded product. Power, manueverability and the technology itself.

Ford aren't necessarily renowned for making outstanding cars. They've got the Ford GT and that's it.

The price of shares means nothing, how many shares were released to the public? the networth of the company, etc.

Very very mis-leading.

When did Japan become the rest of the world? Why not put Japan vs. the rest of the world? It looks like just America vs. Japan to me. Anyway I like GM alot but think Ford is crap except they do own Land rover and I think BMW. I like both of those brands, but those are originally English made.

Pontiakos saying something American sucks wow who saw that one coming.

Josh, BMW aren't owned by Ford nor are they "originally English made".

Help?

Why even compare American vs. Japanese cars?

Is GM, Ford, Honda and Toyota supposed to be the best cars in the world? Germany, that's where they make real cars, not that Toyota, Ford crap.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I think Germany makes the best cars and maybe Italy. I was just wondering why he would put the rest of the world vs. America and then only use Japan. Plus I don't see the point unless he just doesn't like America very much.

haha terrible attempt Pontiakos.

The price of shares means absolutely nothing.

A share is a fraction of a company's value. The quantity of fractions varies from company to company.

This would actually be a good thread if you were to compare the cars itself though.

while in general terms, you can say the share price means nothing, it outlines a story in this case

toyota is at the absolute peak of everything to do car manufacturing, the process itself
they might not produce the best car, but they are so far ahead in operations management, sustainable development, HR management or anything else you care to mention

every year toyota's market share increases, they have overtaken both ford and GM in many areas despite the formers having years later head starts

ford and GM are really heading for bankruptcy, as neither has an idea how to match toyota's productive prcoess

Guys, Toyota are the best car-makers in the world. And this is coming from someone who detests their cars in their essence for lack of spirit and boldness (which is what drives the indstry forward).

They are expected to overtake GM this year as the biggest car producer in the world (and this without the rumour Toyota is also on the hunt - along with Renault/Nissan - to buy GM). Their cars are simply the best reliable thing the world has seen. They got outstanding quality for price, superb easy-to-implement solutions, a chain of value based on simple yet effective tech solutions (as opposed to the Germans), and everything else italianstyle87 mentioned concerning their organizational and manufacturing processes.

I could literally stay all afternoon talking about why they are the leaders and tell you all little funny-car-geek stories - and bore you all to death. :chew:

Btw, for the amount of paperwork and bureaucracy the PSA group (Peugeot and Citroen) demands, they should make the best cars in the world. We spend more time filling up their **** than actually developing parts for them.

That's because Japanese are all crazy, they live to work for their company their whole life and die from hiroshima

Not really, because everyone already knows American cars are crappy. I've never seen a wealthy American say "You know what, I think I'm going to get a nice practical Ford." It doesn't happen, we always buy foreign.
