Can't open files.

Fellow posters,
My laptop has been having problems for 2 weeks now. Out of the blue, everytime that I try to open a file...be it IE, Firefox, iTunes, etc. it says. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have xp professional. What I did is start up in Safe Mode as Administrator and restore to a previous checkpoint, and it works, but the next day when I boot up again, same error. I googled the problem and found something about right-clicking the file, and under 'Properties', click 'Unblock', but I don't have that button. The way that I fixed the problem today is by right-clicking, 'Properties' and under 'Shortcut' I clicked 'Advanced', then I checked the 'Run with different credentials' and I open the file as the Administrator and it works. Others dont seem to work however...like iTunes for example. Please help...I'm going nuts!

You are not an administrator and someone has taken away some of your user rights (assuming you had rights in the past). Just login as admin and upgrade your regular account to admin rights.

My account was an administrator account already, but just for good measure i decided to delete it completely, keeping all the files. I created a completely new account just to see and it has the same problem. Except now I can't even pull up the Properties on IE. Any more suggestions?
