Youth Team
After a long discussion on the FIFA 2003 board regarding whether or not MLS could compete against different leagues, I plopped the Galaxy in the Premiership.
TEST: The Los Angeles Galaxy have made the top 25 in club rankings. I did a test, using my own program, to see how they would fare in the Premiership, replacing Bolton Wanderers, who perennially struggle for relegation, and having Bolton as replacing the Galaxy in the MLS.
Expected Result: The Galaxy would be around mid-table. There is some luck involved in what tactic each team plays as, so they could be a little higher. Bolton should provide yet another competitive team in the MLS.
Program Used: US Soccer Manager, my own creation that's not fully out yet.
What Happened:
I played as Hajduk Split courtesy of a cheat code to not screw anything up but was fired because they did not play any games and their finances corkscrewed, a bug, since all other european teams have static finances (fixed). I first chose an MLS team, San Jose, because they would simulate the season faster because they play fewer games, but once the games had been simmed I hopped to Hajduk.
After the first 12 games, Bolton was in the relegation zone (with the Galaxy's players). They were able to pull out of it. At the end of the season, they were in the lower part of the table, as you can see below. Other notes: the teams with the data in the lower divisions won easily because they had better teams.
In the MLS the Galaxy lost only four games. They had some problems in the playoffs but the full results were shown below.
In the MLS (the league I started with) Ricketts led the league with 24 goals, no Galaxy player made the top 10 in the premiership.
Misc: Bobby Rhine was MVP.
Important Note: Arsenal won the World Club Cup, defeating the KC Wizards 3-2. The Gunners went up 2-0 but the score at HT was 2-2 thanks to a Ljungberg sending off. Wizards got nothing in the second half. Proof that MLS CAN play Arsenal, who did very well as you can see.
The data could have been flawed, but I regret saying that most likely that MLS teams are relegation zone Premiership/top Division One teams.
