Can EA's fifa games compete with Konami's winning eleven series?

Football games have been done to death, right? If you already have fifa 2003, then whats the point of buying pes 2 or winning eleven 6? Because quite simply winning eleven 6 is light years ahead of fifa 2003!!!

Its an enhanced japanese special edition of pro evo soccer 2, the masively succesful ps2 title which is on its way to the gamecube. The thing that sets it apart from all the competition, including pro evo soccer 2 is the feeling of solidity and control. where other football games, no matter how good, have some faults that you have to try and ignore in order to have a decent game, winning eleven is a complete and thourough as you could hope for.

There are no easy goals, no unwelcome assistance from the computer, and no way to win on the hardest difficulty setting without having a genuine understanding of the sport. Learning how to play is a hard task. You will need to start with the basic passes and shots before moving onto the complex stuff, which is expalined via video demonstrations in the training mode.

When you beat somebody at winning eleven, it isn't because the computer has given you any assistance, or because you got lucky. its a game of pure skill, and that winning feeling takes some beating.

Good points

1. Superb controls
2. Infinite replay value
3. High skill level
4. Nice commentary

Bad points

1. Picky referees never play the advantage

EA might be able to make their game better, but I REALLY doubt it!!! :kader:

After playing WE6:FE, I doubt EA can do anything!

Going backwards!

FIFA, other than the graphics, has been going backwards rather than forwards. If Konami stood still for the next five years FIFA wouldn't catch up let alone with Konami's constant progression.

I really do wish FIFA would get better but with the one step forward (graphics), two steps backwards (gameplay and game features) each year it doesn't seem like that's ever gonna happen.

People get educated, however slowly, and Konami are stealing more and more of EA's soccer market by the day. I can't see people making the reverse switch from Konami to FIFA somehow!

EA have got the ability to make a decent football game... they did so with earlier FIFA's like 98 and 99...

It seems as if their recent efforts are way too lazy and dated compared to PES/WE...

So IMO, FIFA can't compare unless there is something absolutely drastic with FIFA 2004.

The only way fifa 2004 will be good is if EA..........................???!! Acctually there is no hope :rockman:

The game is actually titled FIFA Football throughout most of the world so let's not get into the whole soccer/football thing again guys.

FIFA is dogcrap whether it's trying to be soccer/football/futbol (all the same thing). Konami is the only true representative of the beautiful game and EA will never raise their product to that standard. I wouldn't be surprised if FIFA 2004 turns out to be more scripted than ever. PES3/WE7 on the other hand will be a job destroying, relationships derailing, lock yourself away for six months at a time blockbuster with even more teams and even greater gameplay than PES2/WE6.

You don't see Konami going backwards. Those Japanese dudes have got it right, they know programming and they know gameplay.

U damn right man. Pro evo 2 is ahead and they aint gonna be caught. Every detail of gameplay from animations, down to tactics and AI, has been taken into account. The AI is the best AI i have personally seen in any game, and is the closest to football u can get. U get the ball and u cant keep the ball for more than 5-10 seconds, in fifa 2003 u can keep the ball for ever, while stopping and having a time out to stop the other team from scoring. IN pro evo if u dare stand on the ball u will be tackled and attacked.
-fifa is way to stuttery and stop start, unlike pro evo the gameplay just does not flow
- the game is too 1 dimensional, making subs and changing the limited tactics does not do much to change a game, and player attributes (limited also) are not represented on the pitch, by each player as they all have the same first touch, passing ability and skill etc.

-Goalie saves are scripted along with volleys and first touch and the free kick system is appauling with no movement. Whereas in pro evolution the player and the ball are two different things. Depending on the direction and the power of the shot, the goalie can push it all directions including off his legs and into the goal or off his legs and behind for a corner.
- in fifa it does not matter where u are facing or with what player, u can aim a shot towards goal at 80 mph, i assure u that pro evo is not like this.

woo thats that off my chest but wait theres more...

- player movement is poor, players do not close ur options down, u can pick ur pass and players often leave the ball when the can put their foot out to stop it.

- corners and all set peaces are poor there is no movement and no variety of scoring.

- Goalies in the game do not vary from positioning to shot stopping, in fifa the same could possibly be said for pro evo

hey plz guys tell me that i can get WE6FE on the xbox or pc, after seeing the movies i want that game so badly.
I also saw PES3 but somehow WE6FE looked better, with offical shirts.
Why is PES3 not with an official lisence? Or are PES3 and WE6FE the same games?

yes you are right. Its all scripted. I dont know how many times I saw an exact same situation over and over again in fifa. It like watching a same movie every time. Its so predictable.

Well I just like to see we or pes in PC...

They could be the best games ever, but in PC, well, we have only FIFA, rigth?

And I must say that, regarding FIFA is better or PES is better or WE is better, doing a game to a console is very different of doiong a game for a PC...

I don't want to say EA has some excuses, cause they don't, but I wonder how PES and WE would be in PC?

Elo Ratings
I want personally FIFA series can compete in the market itself with Konami. Over the past years, I think FIFA RTWC '98 is still the best FIFA, with FIFA 2003 comes the second place.

The only I like in FIFA 2003 is the free-kick system & the players' handling ball control itself, which is pretty good, IMO.

The most disappointed one is I can't even score from the headers (corner kick situations); players can't be substituted during the dead ball situations (The subs only happens when the ball is out of the field); & the goal scoring opportunities are all scripted. What's up with that ?? Have EA really learnt real football/soccer itself ?? :monkey:
