Building my first desktop

YELLOW CARD: Untrustworthy
That looks sweet!!

Makes me want to upgrade my tower after seeing those pics. I haven't researched it, but can the video card handle multiple monitors?

Anyone recommend any particular CPU fan? I haven't really tested my CPU temperature during gaming but when doing regular stuffs like browsing, youtubing etc, my CPU temperature varies between 30 and 60 degrees celcius. I am worried it may go too high while gaming. My other component temperatures are 25 - 30 degrees celcius.

If I buy one CPU cooler, I wouldn't want to spend too much on it. Let's say less than $100. Any recommendations? Are budget liquid CPU coolers (some are $50) better than CPU fans of the same price?

Your PSU, how so it's on the down side? I mean fan is now completely blocked. Isn't PSU (fan) supposed to be up, with fan having clean air intake, better air flow?

BTW, that tower... amazing, love it.

That's a difficult question to answer because it is impossible to find an identical ready-made desktop to a custom built one. there are always going to be differences.

It costed me approximately $1 800. That includes the keyboard/mouse combo ($80) and monitor (around $150) but doesn't include the SSD and HDD because I already had them. The ready-made ones usually come with cheap, wired mouse/keyboard which cost $30 or less.

If you include the SSD and HDD (suppose 250 GB SSD and 2 TB HDD), exclude the monitor and replace the keyboard/mouse combo with a cheap one (that usually comes with ready made ones), it would amount to around $1 900. Ready made ones of similar specs would probably be about $2 300 or more.

EDIT: All prices are taxes included.

All prices are not labor included. You have NOT included a cost figure for your time spent learning how to correctly install all the hardware components.

Oh, and by the way, the first thing you want to do (RIGHT NOW) is lift the tower off the floor and place it on TOP of the desk you are using. After all that cost, excluding labor, of putting the thing together you are running the rather HIGH risk of someone kicking it accidentally. Why would you take that risk by placing such an expensive piece of equipment, minus the labor costs against which you cannot meaningfully attach a cost figure, on the floor?

No, there is a vent just below and there's space below my case for the fan to blow. Why would there be a vent there if it wasn't for the fan?

I had researched this and most sources (mostly tomshardware) say that they install with the fan facing down. I don't think it matters that much. Many people install with fan facing upwards.

The guy in the video from which I learned how to build this PC installed it facing up.

Make America Great Again
I've thought about doing this so many times, but right before I start buying parts I always realize that the only game I ever play is FM.

I'm not really that interested in most of the popular games. I'll play Europa Universalis, FM, GTA, and if it wasn't just discontinued NCAA Football, but that's pretty much it for what I buy; I guess you can maybe add FIFA in there. The games that require computing power I have historically got on console (and NCAA hasn't been on PC in a looong time).

Forgot to to reply this part. It is an awesome case, one of the best for the price IMO. You really get what you pay for. I think NZXT makes the best looking cases.

Yea, I guess I'm still "old school" with PSU being up, not down in the case. I noticed that almost all high end PC's have their PSU on the down side and I guess that vent is probably enough too keep it cool. Its CPU and GPU that matters the most, after all.

White case color is pretty suitable. We all used to black hardware nowadays. It almost make me wait for white PS4 version this fall to buy. I'm out of PC gaming.

Also, If you want to keep track of CPU/GPU performance during gaming, there are simple softwares that will provide you with information during gameplay. I use MSI Afterburner for tracking GPU Temperature, GPU Usage and GPU Fan Usage. Its all on-screen during gaming. Pretty good stuff, but it does not track CPU, only GPU.

Anyone have any suggestions about CPU cooling options?

I have finally played FIFA 14. It is awesome on maximum graphics but the CPU temperature gets high (70s to 80s) and there is occasional lag when it reaches the 80s. The stock CPU fan is good enough for casual gaming but not if you're trying to play with maximum graphics. I am looking for a CPU fan under $100.

Thanks.

I have finally decided to but the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo which is a fan cooler. I decided against a liquid cooler for now because I have read that some people experienced leakage of their liquid and had their whole system fried. That's the last thing I want now and I don't want to spend too much on just a CPU fan. Here's how it looks like:

I'm paying less than $30 for that and it is supposed to decrease my CPU temperature by about 20 degrees C.

I chose white because of the clean look and black is too common. The black one is also sexy though.

That's funny, when I built my first PC at about 14 I painted it black, because EVERY PC was white/beige
