Crouch is proof positive that height doesn't make a good target man. This guy may be 6'9" but I'm sure Super Kevin Davies will still win more in the air, he's just that good. Not to mention that he can cross and works harder than anyone in the league.

We should learn to play the ball on the damned ground before we bother getting more aerial prowess.

Crouch covers more ground, on average, than anyone in the league. Benitez has stats that prove this, he showed them to back up signing him. He tracks back all the time, provides defensive cover, attacks and defends corners and freekicks, marks his man (something alot of forwards neglect) and never complains about it.

You need to take the blinders off.

He never said Crouch isn't a good player, just that he's not a good target man, which is true as he can't head the ball well.

Kevin Davies is strong and very good in the air. Crouch is 6 ft 7 and jumps up to 6 ft 8. Davies is much shorter but has an excellent spring off him.

Crouch also seem unable to jump without levering on other players, something which referees frown upon.

For a big man though, he does have a very good touch on the ground. I don't know if this new Chinese player has that.
