Expert Opinions are just guesses, bassed on research.

You want my expert opinion - Superman, X-Men 3 and Casino Royale.

The contest will definitely be between Cars and X-Men 3, since they are movies that; One, already have a quite substantial following that is just waiting for them to come, and these people will definitely see the film on the opening weekend because they won't care for reviews, since they already know what they will most certainly get. Two, both these films also will have strong marketing movements behind them that will apply to the largest demographics possible, parents, kids, granparents, casual movie-goers, and even the hardcore zealots will give a try, because they do carry strong backgrounds.

The same cannot be said for some of the other films on the list, since some are only directed towards niche audiences, and others will be making debuts so people will wait-and-see before checking them out, and the rest are just plain unkown.

Pirates and Fast and the Furious could have strong weekends, but unless they are something spectacular, they won't do much better than the originals.

I could go into more deeper explanations, but I have alot of work to do right now.... :fool:

Superman
kids movies always do better. It's between Cars and Charlotte's Web IMO. Im going with the former because it opens on a Friday. Charlotte's Web has the advantage of opening near Christmas and it has a bigger cast but the problem is that it opens on a Wednesday.

Pirates has a chance too because it appeals to everybody and it has momentum. kids dont know who superman is anymore I think :(

Also, when you look a the calendar, you've got nothing on the month of May that could rival X3. Maybe "The Da Vinci Code" could take some casual viewers, but nothing significant.

Cars does seem to be good for the opening aswell, but it might run in to some trouble later on, but remember now, Pixar is now back with Disney!, plus this film will recieive alot of support from Steve Jobs of Apple, he really wants to bring Pixar back to glory.

I bet Superman kicks ar$e. It has a huge budget and hasn't even started advertising that well yet.

And Hakeem, I mean come on, who doesn't know who Superman is, honestly?

I just say that because I want it to win hehe. It probably will be the kids ones but, they always open on holidays here and the cinemas are always packed when they are out.

Tom

That Nice Guy
X-Men 3 or Superman Returns

why, because there isnt one demographic who wont see these films, kids, adults, OAPS, with girlfriend/boyfriend, with mates, even critics.

Every demographic = big money.

Kevin Smith's video posted on the Superman thread, watch it.

I'd put my whole savings on the film being absolute trash.

I'd bet on Cars, Pixar's films tend to appeal to everyone, although X3 may be a strong shout for opening weekend.

No dude that film was trashed about 4 years ago, if not more. This is a completely different Superman. Bryan Singer's idea.

But I agree, the one Smith was writing sounds like a piece of sh!t. But honestly, even if that superman WAS the one he is talking about; we are talking money here, and how many people are going to watch the Kevin Smith Video? Superman, I think the name sells the film, especially now because he hasn't been in a film for so long.

I think X3 if the reviews and buzz get better and grow, and also Pirates has a great chance to build on the long wait people have been waiting for.

I was talking about the producer. See... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005307/ same one.

"Because spiders are the fiercest killers in the insect kingdom...."

absolutely legendary (H)

John Peters is known for his eccentrics and has done some quite pathetic films. But he also has good ones as well, like Batman. And I wouldn't be going on what Kevin Smith says, not to the exact word anyway.

And Superman has Bryan Singer and other people on board who worked on the X-Men projects and the Usual Suspects, films that are quite good. I think the story is good enough to hold up the film and I think it will be quite good, Singer is a good director and writer. I wouldn't be put off by Peters, he is one of about seven producers, and don't worry, there is no huge spiders or polar bears in this one.

Hakeem

Superman
lets hope :p

but yeah, I think the movie looks good, the suit looks good, Bryan Singer is great, Frank Langella should be awesome as Perry White, I just see that Parker Posey has a role in it and she's great, and finally, Kevin Spacey looks amazing as Luthor and he's a God amongst actors.

my problem with the movie so far is that Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth are too young IMO.
And I think that the Sam Huntingto kid playing Jimmy Olsen might be a little bit distracting and not a good actor at all but I have no idea who played Jimmy in the original movies nor I cared much for the character so I maybe it wont bother me at all this time either.

Yeah, I think he is a good choice for Jimmy Olsen, very annoying haha.
