Best way to do backups?

Hi, I'm looking for the best way to do backups of files on my pc.
Usually what I do is copy files from hard drive 1 to a folder on hard drive 2.
I don't know if this is the more efficient way to do this.

Is there a software or another way that could make things easier for backups?

If its a mac you could try Time Machine. If not windows backup usually does the trick for me
