Try Miguel Veloso (CDM) from Sporting Lisbon. You can get him for about 3.5 million pounds. He starts at around 79 and goes up quickly to around 90.

He's a good guy because he's currently better than your Sunderland midfielders AND he grows from here.

You can try Danilinho from Atletico Mineiro. He doesn't grow a lot (up to about 82) but he's better than what you have now and only costs about £2.1 million pounds.

You can also try Josmer Altidore (Red Bull New York), he's fairly cheap with a low salary and is already as good as Cole or Yorke. Goes up into the high 80s.

Sell anybody who is not starting for you and costs a lot of money in Salary. There's no reason to have high salaried bench players.

Started a career at Sunderland. Managed to buy 6 players, 5 of which moved into the starting lineup (the sixth was a left wing back who didn't transition to a center back well). I switched the formation to a 3-4-3. Here's the six transfers:

Player - POS - Former Team - Transfer Fee - 1st year rat - 3rd Year rat
Tardelli - ST - Sao Paulo - £2,025,000 - 75 - 73
Scurto - CB - Treviso - £1,107,000 - 75 - 73
Miguel Veloso - CDM - Sporting Lisbon - £3,510,000 - 79 - 90
Danilinho - CF - Atletico Mineiro - £2,160,000 - 77 - 81
Antunes - LWB - Pacos Ferreira - £1,768,800 - 75 - 80
Couto - CB - Parma - £1,147,500 - 82 - 70

Sold a bunch of guys like Yorke, Cole, Nosworthy. Anybody who wasn't starting, wasn't going to be starting in the future and cost me a good bit of cash in salary. Yorke in particular has to go.

Quick simmed and up until about October was in first place (believe it or not). Won't stay there of course, but I like my chances to survive and keep my job. If that's the case, I'll probably use the winter transfer window to stock up on cheaper future options like Altidore or Patrik (Sao Cateano) or maybe Toni Kroos (Bayern) or Adel Taarabt (Tottenham) if they're still cheap. Won't have a lot of transfer money.

By next year Veloso is going to be worth a ton on the transfer market, so if push comes to shove I could sell him for a bunch of cash.

P.S.: I named my coach R. Keane :)

In January, make sure you pick up a few free agents for cash. If you have enough money, buy Vela from Osasuna. Goes to from 72 to 90 in 5th season.

I always dislike this because it seems too much like cheating to me. If I sign a free agent, I always make a rule for myself that I have to wait a year to sell the guy (and that means having to pay his wages for a year). It's the case in real life, so I figure why not here since it becomes way too easy to accumulate gobs of cash that way. The fun in picking Sunderland is working within the clubs limitations. Give them gobs of money and those limitations cease to exist and things become very easy.

The folks at EA probably should put in some code that prevents a guy from being transferred twice within a 12 month span like in real life (MLS is different because of the league structure, and I think it may be the same in Australia).

The problem with guys like Bojan and Dos Santos is the same problem in real life: those guys are very expensive for a club like Sunderland to acquire (whereas you can get guys from Brazil or MLS or Mexico much cheaper).

Like I said, lined up in a 4-3-3:

GK: C. Gordon - 78
RCB: G. Scurto - 75
CB: Couto - 82
LCB: P. McShane - 74
RM: C. Edwards - 77
RCM: M. Veloso - 79
LCM: D. Whitehead - 73
LM: K. Richardson - 74
RS: Danilinho - 77
ST: M. Chopra - 77
LS: Tardelli - 75

GK: D. Ward
LWB: Antunes
CAM: G. Kavanagh
RM: L. Miller
ST: A. Stokes

I think there were probably better ways to spend money than on Antunes and Tardelli, but I'm very happy with my other purchases.

The team is 6-0-2 through it's first 8 (all quick simmed).

Liam Miller seems very likely to me to be gone at the next transfer window, and if the current form continues, I'll probably just buy young guys with good growth and let my current starters carry me for the rest of the season.

LOL mate, I create him everytime I start a new FIFA career, but I am still not sure if he is a DM or a OM...

he was a winger in goal 1 and a striker in goal 2.

Always created him as a rightfooted OM, will switch him to winger maybe, did you do Harris as well, I´ll always do him as a leftfooted striker...
