are you sure?

i've heard that trezeguet has beaten the platini's record, who was the player who scored more goals in juventus... (:/)

Not exactly. Trezeguet is the non-italian player who scored most goals for Juventus.

I agree, either him or Alan Shearer for the Premier league. As for other leagues Id say either Ronaldo or Jardel, both before they became the size of a small continent of course...

Awesome player! One of the best I've seen live. His goal in the FCP x AC Milan CL match was unbelievable! We played a great game and he scored on the only chance he got all game, the bastard. I hate him.

he was already one of my "all-time-favourite-player" before he scored that goal. and he scored a lot of spectaculars goals like the one you talk about! i've seen a lot of those when he played in marseille and with the french squad. i've never seen a striker scored so many spectacular goals. when he had a ball near the box, a bit on the right, that was 95% garanteed: he would score a great goal!

in six years in marseille, he scored 134 goals in the french league and in his carreer he also scored 66 in european competitions, and 30 for the french squad. he was the best scorer of the french league 5 times in a row (1988, 89, 90, 91, 92) and the best scorer in the champion league 3 consecutive times (90, 91, 92)!!!

but in fact, what i like the most with this player, was the beautiful goals he scored: great shots outside the box, acrobatic goals, everything was possible... he was the best!

One of my fave Papin goals was his unbelievable 'slam-dunk' goal, where he leaps well over 1 meter and heads the ball down with his head on level with the bar.

Here's a Papin compilation, especially for those who think Henry, Rooney or Ruud are the best european strikers of the past 20 years. (Mind you, these are just his OM goals!!! There's no footage from his AC Milan days! )

Papin was by far the player that most influenced my game, and the fact he's forgotten by most nowadays is the reason why I rarely get impressed with football's new prodigies.

WOW!

awesome video, that reminds me how good it was to see that player! and "ready to go" is such an appropriate theme for him. also nice is that sound of the terminator soundtrack in the end (Y) (Y) (Y)
is there a way to save it on our computer, so i can see it even if the internet is off?
does anyone have a link to another papin video with his goals in milan and in the french squad? that would be so cool...

by the way, i remember when papin entered on the pitch, before the start of every single game, he had a "killer look" in his eyes, just like he was about to beat or fight someone! that was impressive to see just how much he wanted to win.

i also remember when he won the golden ball of the magazine france football in 1991, IMO the best individual title a player can win, he dedicated his victory to someone unknown by almost all. i don't remember his name, but he was the marseille's third goal keeper. papin dedicated his title to him because after the end of every training day, after all the others players have leaved the pitch, papin stayed at least 30 more minutes to practise the shots on goal out of the box, with the help of the goal keeper. and in his moment of glory, he didn't forget who help him to improve.

that was Great Player and Great Person by the way :funny:
Had the chance to see him a few times at footy tournaments and all when he had his spell with Bordeaux. A very humble man... in one word a legend.

Wasn't that precisely Barthez? Think it was him.

Really? I had the exact opposite idea of the guy. He always seemed cocky and arrogant. But he could be, he was that damn good. (Y)

no, it wasn't barthez. i am sure of it. i think barthez arrived at marseille after papin leaved. and by the way, when marseille won the champions league in 1993 against milan AC, barthez was the marseille's GK, and papin, who always said that his dream was winning the champions league (after the 1991 final failure against belgrade red star, lost on penalty kicks) played for milan and lost the final. what an irony! when he leaved marseille he said something like "i want to play in a club who offers me more chances to win the champions league". and marseille won it without him and against him.

and about his personnality, i saw lots of interviews, and i can assure you papin was in fact a very humble man. but you are also right you say that "He always seemed cocky and arrogant". during the games the expression he had on his face leaded us to think that way, i think it was his "hyper-motivation" to win and to score. he was completely obsessed by it. but in normal life (out of the pitch) he was very humble.
